JHS Pedals revives Glenn Wyllie's versatile Moonrock Fuzz

The Moonrock circuit is Multi-Voice with a gated Swelling / Blooming output. Crank the Fuzz knob: through to noon it becomes a Tone Bender-esque Searing Tone; around two-thirds an Upper Octave appears. Controls: Volume, Fuzz > Gated Bloom > Sear > Cutting Upper Octave.
Original Moonrocks were handcrafted and are scarce; no listings found on Reverb/Ebay. As of 2026-07-13, the price was £149; available including JHS Pedals Webstore.
My pal Scott Hager of Axe and You Shall Receive first brought this pedal to my attention when I wrote up the history of his dealership back in 2021. Scott had a connection to Glenn, and stocked the Moonrock Fuzz in the early days of his dealership. Alas Glenn passed away in 2014 - and this is the first major revival / tribute we have seen since then.
The Moonrock circuit is a unique Multi-Voice - which starts off with a gated Swelling / Blooming output - which when you crank the Fuzz knob through to noon - turns into a Tone Bender -esque Searing Tone, which then get progressively more cutting with a harmonic Upper Octave appearing at around 2/3rds of the dial.
The original Moonrock Fuzz was a thing of beauty - hand crafted and finessed for that beautifully textured finish. I’ve always quite fancied one of those - but not many were sold overall - and they’re like hen’s teeth these days. A cursory sweep of Reverb.com and Ebay yield absolutely nothing - there are no over-priced originals currently listed, and seemingly no clones either until this JHS tribute!
Josh Scott is often a little slavish with his tributes - in that they are to true to the original - and often carry some of the flaws - like say a slightly lower output volume. Hopefully he’s done the full job on this one - to maintain those exquisite tones but also further elevate the output profile and make sure is sufficiently loud for modern applications too!

There are a number of fuzzes which deliver a wide variety of textures and tones as you spin the Bias dial typically. This one is still pretty distinct in its sensibilities and output profile.
I would still really like one of those original Moonrocks - while this JHS Coyote is a very decent consolation prize! The Coyote goes for just £149 - it’s a no-brainer for me. Available widely now - including on the JHS Pedals Webstore.
It’s really cool that someone has at last revived the Moonrock Fuzz - next time - they need to get the lunar style enclosure right too!
