2026 March Pedal-Chain Update - Episode III - Giga-Muff Multiplier
After the quiet comfort of February, March unleashed an avalanched of work - both in terms of new releases and acquisitions, but especial in the field of Guitar and Pedal expos - where I attended 3 within a month - first The Birmingham Guitar Show at Cranmore Park, then the London Synth and Pedal Expo at Studio 9294, Hackney Wick - and then back to Birmingham for the Noise Maker Market at Centrala, Digbeth - all grand events.
I burned myself out a little this month, and came back willingly empty...
Hagerman's Gamma Radiation harnesses 7 x Transistors for a highly textured 2-Clipping Stage Distortion - with 43dB's of gain onboard
I’m a huge fan of discrete transistor overdrives and distortions - they tend to deliver some of the most richly textured outputs. And here we have 7 Silicon Transistors split into 2-Clipping Stages, with the ’Energy’ Tone Ctrl coming between those 2 stages and acting like a sort of Treble Booster to enhance certain frequencies and textures. The second Tone control then further refines the output!
This pedal has been out for a couple of years - I’ve only just recently come across this ...
Walrus Audio collaborates with Tube expert Jim Hagerman for the 12AU7 powered Silt Harmonic Fuzz
So we get two interesting fuzzes appearing at the same time - Beetronics’ Abelha Tropical Fuzz, and this Walrus Audio + Hagerman Amplification Silt Harmonic Tube Fuzz. Funnily Jim Hagerman has 7 Tube-powered pedals in his extensive pedal range - and the only variety he doesn’t cover in his own Tube range is Fuzz!
When I think of Tube Fuzz - the first that comes to mind is Effectrode’s Mercury Fuzz, and then I recall that Friedman also used to have a tube-powered fuzz called the Fuzz Fiend. ...
