I thought I should do a quick update on the recent V2 NOTADÜMBLË which landed a little over a week or two ago - I had other priority reviews to post first - but I though just a few notes on this one would be a worthy exercise. 

I passed up on the NOTAKLÖN - as I tend to favour more full-featured and expanded variants, while I did plump for the original NOTADÜMBLË. I loved the build process, and it’s a decent Dumble Drive, but really only B-Tier overall - compared to all my other favourites....

So this project goes back to May of 2024 - where Josh Scott used Coppersound’s DIY Breadboardins platform to deconstruct and evolve Electro-Harmonix’s LPB-1 Linear Power Boost circuit. Josh continued tweaking it way beyond its initial replication / reproduction - adding various elements - towards creating a seemingly monster 3 x Gain Stage combination Boost / Overdrive / Fuzz. Which is a pretty cool and especially versatile pedal by any measure.

Another month filled with strong releases! Too many for me to cope with in short order. I’m still waiting for my Chase Bliss Big Time to land - and Strymon goes ahead and launches the Timeline MX - which is of course also on my list. AC Noises launches its killer Continua, just shortly after I landed my Purr-ting in a similar category. And Native Audio launches the killer In The Water - not too long after I landed my Hotone Verbera. All pedals have specific target slots, and I always want to ...

The Boss DS-1 legacy is vast - including as Boss’s all time bestseller (1.5+ Million sold), as well as Kurt Cobain’s weapon of choice! It’s fairly significant in my GPX reference collection too - as the Distortion Circuit I own the most variants of (not counting my Big Muffs which I classify more as fuzzes!).

I’m quite proud of my visual here which has the new Mini Fumble Boost encased in a Kansas City Chiefs helmet - for somewhat obvious reasons! While I am a little mystified that there would be such a high demand for the ’wrong!’ Boost - I’m sure you’re all familiar with the John Mayer ’Box It Later’ boost mixup / saga.

These 3 new pedals bring the JHS 3 Series roster to a very versatile 19 units. These 3 are a little more left-field and adventurous than the rest - and largely an acquired taste. I have a lot of time for Bitcrushers and Glitch Delays - and own a few of those varieties, while I’m a little less au-fait with Ring Modulators. Ringmods for me are often tremolos or vibratos gone wrong - but there are some handy examples of those which blend in gain and other complementary sounds to make more musical ...

A slightly uneventful month in many ways - just the one event - the excellent sophomore Leeds Pedal Show - where I ended up picking up 3 pedals.

Some killer releases during the month, with a strong final flurry to make up the 10 notable article highlights. I’ve been very busy all month - and plenty of work has gone into this as usual, while there was somehow fewer large-scale rundowns and marquee features - more of that next month for sure.

My pal Scott Hager of Axe and You Shall Receive first brought this pedal to my attention when I wrote up the history of his dealership back in 2021. Scott had a connection to Glenn, and stocked the Moonrock Fuzz in the early days of his dealership. Alas Glenn passed away in 2014 - and this is the first major revival / tribute we have seen since then.

The Moonrock circuit is a unique Multi-Voice - which starts off with a gated Swelling / Blooming output - which when you crank the Fuzz knob ...

So JHS have deliberately gone a little off-the-piste ’nasty’ here - where these monophonic effects glitch out in interesting ways when you try to play more than one note at a time. Even single notes can glitch out every now and again.

I already have a few pedals that cover similar ground - often using a CMOS chip at the heart. Some of the most fearsome of those can become pretty untameable - depending on how fine you set the input sensitivity.
