This is the 3rd Walrus Effects Compressor I’ve covered on this site, a cool replacement for the Mira - with the additional VU display and modes, as well as the Sidechain High Pass Filter.
The enclosure follows the styling set by the recent Mantle Bass Preamp, but in portrait format. It comes with a $100 hike in price too (vs the Mira) - but is mostly kind of worth it, while I would have preferred a more compact enclosure.
As I’ve said previously - you need to decide what your lane is ...
Volume pedals typically come in either Passive or Powered variants - where the Powered ones typically hold down a much more expansive feature set as is the case here. The only other truly expansive Volume Pedal that comes to mind is the Sonuus Voluum - which is a favourite of my friend Henry Kaiser. That pedal has always seemed a little on the large side - but it covers a lot of ground - as does the Canvas Volume.
It’s a full Stereo Volume controller with a choice of 8 different Taper ...
36 outstanding Boost and Overdrive pedals featured here in various sizes - 35 of which are already in the reference collection - with the Superlunar SR-01 the last remaining straggler!
The rules of the game are that I can only finally recommend pedals that I own and have lived with, while I can also feature a few other intended targets in the overview which I fully intend to acquire (like the Superlunar SR-01) - but those can’t feature in the final rankings. So there is only one remaining ...
Enclosure / Topology-wise - this is essentially a rebooted and updated version of the 3-Presets Walrus Audio Slotvå pedal - just with slightly different parameters and algorithms onboard!
Controls - Decay, Filter, Mix, X (Variable), MODE : I. Grain Cloud / II. Grain Verb / III. Forward Reverse Verb, Ramp / Glide Time : I. 10ms / II. 1000ms / III. 5000ms, Stretch, Bypass Footswitch, Momentary Footswitch, Press Both Together to scroll through 3 onboard Presets.
It channels elements of its...
My Klon/Klone journey started in December of 2016 with the Wampler Tumnus Mini - very near the start of my overall pedal journey - so very much in the first 50 pedals I acquired. That pedal had emerged a year earlier (2015) - and players were loving it for the extra bass / oomph it has in its low end. The Mini Tumnus is often selected as the favourite in Blind Tests - and has won a few of those Andertons rundowns.
It took me a while to run across my favourite Mini Klone - the Decibelics ...
August turned out a little bit different than expected. Not so many releases - as expected - but really busy regardless - with a number of Marquee Events and Articles throughout the month. With the king of the crop being the Extended Capacitor Primer - to which I’ve just added a further section on Capacitor Lifespan. Obviously I hit 15,000 followers on Instagram - which is a significant achievement - a really killer month all-round with some big articles - meaning I’m a little bit burned out ...
This post is in honour of the arrival of my two latest Walrus Audio Overdrives - and I thought I should probably compare and contrast them for your erudition and reading pleasure!
There is a degree of overlap between the two - particularly when the Mids are not engaged on the Voyager - while generally the 385 is thicker and denser sounding, and with significantly more gain on tap - even on the Lower Gain ’385’ setting (vs 385+). Once you apply the Mids on the Voyager - that totally ...
I own a fairly significant number of Reverb Pedals - where I’m mostly focused on Workstation style Pedals with multiple algorithms. I normally have at least 2 Reverbs on the board - a Primary Multi-Verb, and a Secondary more Specialist Verb. Occasionally I have a 3rd Reverb - which can be another Stereo Secondary, or more likely a Mono Tertiary. In fact I can have as many as 4 Reverbs on the board - as the Eventide H90 is always there too!
You can see from my various Pedal-Chain posts that ...
Walrus Audio is next in line for one of my Brand Capsule Collection roundups / rounding exercises! - and as usual I swept up a few more longer-term targets along the way - so that I now own 11 Walruses! The ones I picked up in this latest sweep - included the 385 MKII Dynamic Overdrive, Kangra Filter Fuzz, and Slötvå - the 3 x Preset enhanced short-lived variation of the Slö Shimmer Reverb!
This means that I have just 2 ongoing targets - the fairly recent MKII Voyager Klon Klone, and the ...
Walrus Audio has unleashed a really cool and unusual Dual Channel Looper with some really smart creative abilities - especially for Poly Mode which is able to combine and quantize passages of varying length and time signatures - really super smart. And overall it’s really rather intuitive - with some degree of depth of variation - but mostly fully surfaced for immediate engagement.
I really like the abilities of this new looper - I’m not sure there is another quite like it - and it would be...
