I first covered ThunderTomate back in 2019 - when I did my ’Best of Spanish Guitar Pedals’ feature - and where ThunderTomate was seemingly in short supply by then - about to go on hiatus presumably. I particularly liked the look of the Dani Gomez / AC30 Custom which I featured in that article. But never came across one that was available for sale. A few ThunderTomate pedals landed on Reverb.com sporadically in and around 2019 - but not really the ones I was the keenest on, and then all of a sudden the brand just seemed to dry up and disappear from active duty.
For a period I kept a lookout for any ThunderTomate pedals coming up for sale - but soon that brand became less and less prominent - and then kind of lost within the sands of time!
So I was excited this week to discover that the brand seems to have been back on active duty for a while now. I believe the main engineer is involved in Dani Gomez’s Dirty Boy brand also - but where I always much preferred the aesthetic and nature of those original ThunderTomate pedals.
And now we have a killer small batch edition Over-Drive+ Rev G 3-Voice Overdrive, which my good friend Alberto Barrero has done a blistering demo for - in fact that’s how I rediscovered the brand!
There is a bare bones ThunderTomate website up - while you’re encouraged : ’For availability and details, please get in touch via WhatsApp, Instagram, or the contact form.’
Controls - Level, Tone, Drive, Voice : Stock / Bright / Full.
Alberto really brings out the best of this drive - and I love what I’m hearing!
I’m indeed very much looking forward to getting my hands finally on my first ThunderTomate pedal at last - nearly 7 years after my last encounter!
The Over-Drive+ Rev G seems like its being built in very small batches currently - almost being made to order.
My dance card is alas already full for May. But I will be coming for one of these early next month!
They’re very reasonably priced at ’€149 EUR VAT included (EU) · Free shipping within the EU’. Perhaps I will be the first one to get one shipped to the UK - I will feed back further when that happens!
