A few notes in advance! Obviously I’m a huge fan of Analog Modulations in particular, and especially compact boxes - which deliver the largest numbers in my reference collection. While I do also like Portrait style 1590BB types too - and these are mostly they! The Hamstead Redwing is a little larger, and the Boss XS-100 is one of the largest pedals I have in my collection - and appears here somewhat shrunk down - otherwise this selection would look decidedly odd.
There were some very deep ...
Interesting one from Mr. Black - a Dual Digital Delay Line recreation of the Boss CE-1 Chorus, set out of phase for glorious stereo output. I have plenty of MISO Chorus Pedals, but very few Stereo In and Out.
This is a really straightforward pedal to operate with essentially 2 modes - Normal and Stereo, and you can even Save a favourite Preset - which is then recalled by holding down the left footswitch.
You have the core 3 controls up top - Wet/Dry Mix, Depth, and Rate. Then you have ...
I kind of fluked this one in scoring one of the limited 100 run Black and Lavender edition Somersaults from June 2019, in specific #72. Someone was selling a pristine version on Ebay - listed as being a ’Dark Blue’ edition! - where it’s quite evidently the Black and Lavender one in pretty much perfect condition.
I was hoping to score either the Black and Lavender or the Gear Hero Cosmic Purple Sparkle Editions - I put the Black one on my watchlist, and was made an offer I could not refuse!...
This is one of my very favourite choruses now, it sounds so impressive from first encounter. It delivers the most lush of shimmery chorus and vibrato modulations - and the extra controls over and above the original CE-2 circuit inspiration - make a huge difference to the output profile.
The ’Warp / Detune’ dial adds more fluttery textures or softens / tempers the output, ’Amp’ adds warmth and more Volume - in fact Amp has a huge amount of range! And finally ’Freq’ allows you to adjust the ...
I have a soft spot for Rotary Speaker Emulators, and have long sought out the most flavourful from that genre. With the recent Boss RT-2 Rotary Ensemble my current champion of that genre, followed by Strymon’s Lex 2, the Eventide Rotary Vibrotone H9 & H90 Algorithm (Josh Smith settings), and the long-since discontinued Tech 21 NYC Roto Choir - also the Rotary voicings on the Hamstead Redwing, Eventide Tricerachorus, and Colortone VibroVerb - all those are excellent. And all those work ...
May has been a little bit of strange month - lots of delays really, and waiting for pedals to land.
As inevitably happens most months - much was delayed this month, and I was unable to complete some of the larger articles - they will need to wait until next month, there’s certainly lots of projects in progress. Where new and imminent arrivals kind of scuppered several intended projects - hopefully they can be completed in June.
The first event I’m attending this month is tomorrow - as a micropub ...
I obviously slept on this when it was launched back in the Autumn of 2021 - as I’ve long owned the H9 Max, and now the H90 - so I wasn’t initially overly taken by the stand-alone Eventide Devices - while I so like the Tricherachorus that I will for sure get more of this series.
The Preset overlay cards are genius - and perfect for pedals which have two layers of controls - i.e. secondary / alt parameters. I’ve always preferred dual concentric pots - and don’t understand why pedal builders ...
While this new Eclipsa is based on a different model to the Pulse predecessor - Dawner’s two iterations of rotary effect devices do have a fair amount in common (at least superficially), with the newer device being the more evolved, granular, and refined - with additional controls - while both have the same 5 key controls - Slow Speed, Fast Speed, Distance, Intertia, and Blend / Mix.
Both devices also have two footswitches - with similar functionality. While the Eclipsa has an additional ...
Here we have a revival of the near decade and a half old Dr. Scientist Reverberator 9-Mode Reverb. It’s a versatile mono pedal with 8 x Reverb Modes, and a 9th bonus chorusey Rotary Mode.
We have a very elegant control topology with just 4 controls - Mix, Level, Delay Time : Short / Long, and the 9 x Modes.
Controls - Mix, Level, Delay Time : Short / Long, MODE : H1 Bright Hall / H2 Warm Hall / R1 Bright Room / R2 Standard Room / R3 Warm Room / P1 Standard Plate / P2 Bright Plate / P3 ...
The new style of enclosure has come a long way since the original gloss black and copper face-plate early devices. I’ve enjoyed every era of Fjord Fuzz, and the new standard is every bit as striking - and as instantly recognisable. You can still spot a Fjord Fuzz pedal from a mile off. And Daniel typically removes all brakes and limitations for each circuit - so you always guarantee a fuller flavour!
This is the 4th or 5th iteration of Vibe circuit - where the last 2 iterations (Frei & ...
