A few notes in advance! Obviously I’m a huge fan of Analog Modulations in particular, and especially compact boxes - which deliver the largest numbers in my reference collection. While I do also like Portrait style 1590BB types too - and these are mostly they! The Hamstead Redwing is a little larger, and the Boss XS-100 is one of the largest pedals I have in my collection - and appears here somewhat shrunk down - otherwise this selection would look decidedly odd.

There were some very deep ...

A super busy month - with plenty of highlights and heatwaves.

My house is finally cooling down as I write these last few observations - we’ve had around 10 days of oppressive heat now, and there’s another wave on the way at the end of this week - which makes for very difficult conditions to have sessions with said pedals.

We’re in the final consequence of global climate change now - with increasingly more extreme weather patterns occurring - alternately cold snaps, heatwaves, and torrential ...

2026-GPX-Asheville-Analoger-AFG-1-Flanger-700.jpg

I was hugely impressed with my Analoger APH-12 Phaser - which is a rather unusual phaser in its enormous scope - particularly in how it ramps up from a single Stage - all the way up to 12! So where that extensive Multi-Stage approach singled out the Phaser as sonewhat unique and different. For the Flanger it is the Envelope / ’Whoosh’ Filter / Attenuator which makes it so unique. That allows you to temper the typical excesses possible with a flanger - and smooth out and dampen the output to a ...

As part of a pedal’s packaging you typically get an inner protective pouch / drawstring bag - usually made of canvas, cotton or hemp, but also in a variety of more exotic materials and fabrics. A lot of those are unbranded, but a fair amount of them have logos stamped, embossed, printed, appliquéd or embroidered even.

This post was prompted by 2 fairly recent arrivals - my first 2 Asheville Music Tools pedals, and my first Pedal Pawn pedal. I had actually first thought about doing such an ...

2026-May--Pedal-Chain-700.jpg

May has been a little bit of strange month - lots of delays really, and waiting for pedals to land.

As inevitably happens most months - much was delayed this month, and I was unable to complete some of the larger articles - they will need to wait until next month, there’s certainly lots of projects in progress. Where new and imminent arrivals kind of scuppered several intended projects - hopefully they can be completed in June.

The first event I’m attending this month is tomorrow - as a micropub ...

2026-GPX-Asheville-Analoger-APH-12-Phaser-700.jpg

This project has long been on the cards, as I’ve always intended to take the Asheville Music Tools journey - the Analog Modulations in particular. The Phaser ended up being the first on the list, and I will tackle the Flanger next, and then the Chorus / Vibrato after that.

I’m not short of a great Phaser or two - as the APH-12 is the 29th phaser in my reference collection (full list after the demos below). I have a soft spot for so many of these - including the Beetronics Larva, Caroline ...

2025-GPX-Asheville-Analoger-APH-12-700.jpg

Asheville’s 4th pedal creation is the Analoger APH-12 12-Stage Phaser - another really impressive analog modulation device following the superb ADG-1 Analog Delay, ACV-1 Analog Chorus / Vibrato, and AFG-1 Analog Flanger.

Those are all really high-fidelity devices with added range and features, and a smart upper dial to set the Expression per parameter.

There’s definitely much to like here - while this device is on the larger side of things in dimensions and price. In fact these go for $...

Asheville Music Tools' 3rd in the Analoger Series is the AFG-1 Dynamic Analog Flanger and Whooshless Resonant Comb Modulator

2023-GPX-Ashevilee-Music-Tools-Trilogy-700.jpg

Much like with the recent Tru-Fi post - I’m a little late to come around to the charms of Asheville Music Tools. Mostly because I like my delays to be Stereo, and I have a marked preference for compact single effect type pedals.

There’s no doubting the pedigree of these pedals - and each of them builds on really cool vintage-inspired Analog Bucket Brigade Delay-Line manipulation, which delivers Chorus and Vibrato, Modulated Delay, and Flanging and Comb Modulation across 3 vertical circa ...
