MXR Expands Compact Fuzz Range with Suitably Sizzling Brown Acid MKIII Style Fuzz

I’ve featured MXR quite a lot on this site over the years, but bizarrely and somewhat inexplicably to date have only acquired one of those numerous pedals - the Mini Phase 95, actually with the Brown Acid it makes 2! And this just after my fairly recent acquisition of the Pigdog Juju Fuzz - which also happens to be a TB MKIII style fuzz - I think I now have a nicely rounded quartet of MKIII’s with room for a couple more no doubt. Of course I’m an avowed fuzz fan, and I have ...

Yet another Pedal Primary Colour Wheel derived article - I must surely be running out of these colour-associated varieties soon. In my original piece I recalled the alliteration of Lovepedal’s Purple Plexi which made that the most obvious Purple Pedal association, yet I also mentioned how Jimi Hendrix had inspired a number of Purple Fuzz Pedals. This is as distinct from the Violet Ram’s Head Muff - which is associated with a slightly different hue. Here the colour Purple is that ...

I spent the whole of yesterday at the Islington UK Guitar Show - which turned out to be quite a different experiences for me compared to last year’s somewhat haphazard inaugural event at Olympia - this was much better organised, and I really enjoyed attending the many breakout events at the show.

For Pedal fans it was really quite a simple show with relatively few Pedal purveyors - and with one stand having most of the action - i.e. the Audio Distribution Group - with 16 brands -...

Best of ThorpyFX Pedals - Actually all 10 are Great!

My first exposure to Thorpy - way back when, was the then monikered Muffroom Cloud Fuzz - a fantastic sounding and really versatile take on the original Triangle version EXH Big Muff Pi. At the time though I was slightly put off by the somewhat over-sized enclosure - which was both significantly longer and wider than my preferred compact enclosure size - so I campaigned hard to have Thorpy bring the box down in size somewhat. This did not look like it was going to happen - and I eventually ...

An Introduction to the DanDrive Fuzz-Master-in-Chief

2019GPX4DanDriveMain700.jpg

Like many others I’m guessing, my first exposure to DanDrive Pedals was courtesy of Joey Landreth’s brief Secret Weapon Fuzz appearance on a relatively recent That Pedal Show Episode

I confess that I was not fully aware of Dan and his super high quality brand of Fuzz Pedals until that very moment - which is rare for such a Fuzz fan as me.

DanDrive Pedal Solution has actually only been established for a couple of years now - with the earliest official record being...

Zvex's Future is Clear - with Limited Edition Transparent Lexan Enclosure Versions of its Classic Pedals

I’m a touch late to the party with this feature - as it’s been quite a while since Zvex announced and sold out of the very first Fuzz Factory edition of this new limited-run line of pedals. They are pretty much identical in content, components and format to the original classic horizontal compact pedals - bar for the use of fully transparent / see-through Lexan enclosures. Lexan is actually a super hard plastic compound or version of Polycarbonate - a thermoplastic polymer - often ...

3 Flavours of Cusack Music's Superb Screamer Fuzz - Fuzz Overdrive, FuzzDrive and Germanium

This post is exactly inspired by Mike Hermans’ recent Comparison Demo video (below) which features these 3 self same pedals (almost!). I’ve always associated Cusack Music (sister brand to Mojo Hand FX) with its various tap-tempo ’Tap-A-...’ Pedals - Tap-A-Delay, Tap-A-Whirl, Tap-A-Fuzz etc.

While the range is comprised of some excellent utility pedals too - including several really cool diminutive mini Never-Off pedals. It was only back in March though that I ...

I’ve been aware of the Jannis Anastasakis led Greek boutique pedal builder JAM Pedals for a number of years now - initially through their superb analog Delay Llama pedals, but latterly because of their Retrovibe, Wahcko Wah, Waterfall Chorus and Rattler Rat pedals in particular.

In fact I so liked the Rattler that I have both the standard and ’+’ varieties - you can read about that in my Twisted Tale of 4 Rats article. My recent 28 Compact Big Muff pedals roundup also...

JHS Pedals Makes Curious Detour Into Pricey Collectibles Territory

I have to start by saying I was really excited to see what Josh Scott was going to be releasing today - as his teaser campaign worked well at building up intrigue. I spotted single and dual transistor circuits - possibly a pair of Tungsram AC128 transistors - so I was definitely thinking in the ballpark of Fuzz Face and RangeMaster style pedals. Yet I must admit that the full reveal has taken me somewhat by surprise.

Firstly there are 4 pedals to this ’1966’ Limited Series ...

I’m not entirely clear on how I first got into Basic Audio / John Lyons, but I did get the Scarab Deluxe very early on in my Fuzz ToneQuest - followed then by the Futureman and Gnarly in rather quick succession, and leading to where I now have 11 from this very extensive and flavourful range. Update! I’ve just added the Foxton to make it 12 now.

I think if you are a fuzz fan like myself then you really cannot ignore John Lyons’ Basic Audio Fuzz Pedals - there is no ...
