I’ve finally picked up a Hotone Verbera (normally $299 / £249), where I paid £229 at Andertons - super good value, and I’ve been incredibly impressed right from the start. The control interface is mostly pretty intuitive - and the value of this pedal is hard to beat. It could even be my favourite Reverb workstation to-date - but it’s a little early to call - I normally give it at least a few months!
It’s been a long time coming - and has been held off for quite a few months by a combination...
May has been a little bit of strange month - lots of delays really, and waiting for pedals to land.
As inevitably happens most months - much was delayed this month, and I was unable to complete some of the larger articles - they will need to wait until next month, there’s certainly lots of projects in progress. Where new and imminent arrivals kind of scuppered several intended projects - hopefully they can be completed in June.
The first event I’m attending this month is tomorrow - as a micropub ...
So I ordered this from my friend Andy at Effekt Boutique - back in mid-November of last year, while several production hitches delayed the arrival of the pedal - by approximately half a year! Which is one of the longest waits I’ve had to endure outside of Kickstarter and Indiegogo! But all’s well that ends well!
I’ve long been a fan of combining Reverb, Modulation and Fuzz / Distortion - for that killer dreamy hazy shoegaze effect - where I normally use a combination of single genre effects...
After the quiet comfort of February, March unleashed an avalanched of work - both in terms of new releases and acquisitions, but especial in the field of Guitar and Pedal expos - where I attended 3 within a month - first The Birmingham Guitar Show at Cranmore Park, then the London Synth and Pedal Expo at Studio 9294, Hackney Wick - and then back to Birmingham for the Noise Maker Market at Centrala, Digbeth - all grand events.
I burned myself out a little this month, and came back willingly empty...
Aliens fans will instantly know what ’RV-426’ is derived from, where this is a mono atmospheric reverb with a Brian Neunaber style Belton Brick Reverb at the heart of that circuit.
The PT2399-derived Belton Brick was originally created to generate Spring Reverb sounds in particular - so this RV-426 is a significant spin and departure from its original purpose.
Controls - Boost (Level+), Dry/Wet Mix (Max is 50/50), Low Pass Filter (Dampen), Regen / Feedback, Decay, Dry-Kill, Rise-Time (...
Beyond the typical Real Spring Tank Reverbs, we don’t tend to get many varieties of Analog Reverb. While here Fairfield have concocted a really cool Bucket Brigade Device Reverberator - utilising 3 Delay Lines, courtesy of 3 x CoolAudio V3205SD BBD Chips. Where the pedal is controlled by digital controls - to trigger the 3 different delay lines.
Controls - Decay, Tone, Dry-Wet Mix, Volume, Decay CV In, Size CV In, Modulation Depth : More / Slight / None, Modulation Type : Cyclical / Both / ...
Source Audio takes on the Fender Tre-Verb, Keeley Hydra, and venerable Strymon Flint - with a few more modes and features onboard. Source Audio are brilliant at Reverbs - I still love my Ventris, and they’ve covered the same flavours of Tremolo as you would expect - should do really well. This is a very neat form factor - almost exactly per the recent Lo-Fi Artifakt - it’s great that Source Audio has found further use for this format - this may just be my pick of the ’tremoverbs’ - as long as ...
Circa EQD’s 10th Reverb pedal. A very straigftforward, but somewhat unusual confection, with cool stretch function on the second footswitch.
You have individual full stereo connections, alongside an Expression Jack. And you get some great dynamics in manipulating the Expression and Stretch function on-the-fly. All-round a rather handy take on reverb - balancing filtering and modulation.
Controls - Length, Mode : Manual | Envelope | LFO, Frequency, Mix, Preset : 1-8, Filter, Stretch ...
Here we have a revival of the near decade and a half old Dr. Scientist Reverberator 9-Mode Reverb. It’s a versatile mono pedal with 8 x Reverb Modes, and a 9th bonus chorusey Rotary Mode.
We have a very elegant control topology with just 4 controls - Mix, Level, Delay Time : Short / Long, and the 9 x Modes.
Controls - Mix, Level, Delay Time : Short / Long, MODE : H1 Bright Hall / H2 Warm Hall / R1 Bright Room / R2 Standard Room / R3 Warm Room / P1 Standard Plate / P2 Bright Plate / P3 ...
We all know Joe Anastasio for his long-standing Lone Wolf Audio brand - Left Hand Wrath etc. while he now has a new umbrella brand ’Void Manufacturing’ which covers both Void and Lone Wolf Audio brands of pedals, alongside Void Modular Eurorack Devices.
