My close association with Thorpy started back in late September of 2018 - at the now defunct Olympia UK Guitar Show. He was the first pedal maker I reached out to, and the first I connected with.
Since then ThorpyFX Pedals have become my 3rd most populous selection after Boss and Drunk Beaver. Those 3 brands alone contribute over 200 pedals to my reference collection!
The fact that I’m now at 31 ThorpyFX Pedals is a major milestone - and features every mainline MKII pedal Thorpy has made. ...
Someone asked me earlier this week if all Drunk Beaver pedals are this high quality - as he had acquired he Irpin from my influence, and was really liking it so far. I would say all Drunk Beaver pedals are of he highest quality - as you can see by the nature and neatness of their circuitboards - which I fully display for every pedal - GPX is a fanatic archive for Drunk Beaver pedals and there are over 60 Drunk Beaver articles on the site!
It has to be noted hat Drunk Beaver has 3 different ...
I’ve struggled to keep up with Catalinbread and Pettyjohn recently - who have been fast and furious with small batch limited editions of late - with one or two new pedals often appearing within just a week or two of each other. This is not the typical small batch of old - where each batch of 8 or 10 used to be just continuations of a specific pedal.
This time around - everyone is making special and custom and limited editions in tiny quantities - in part to inflate FOMA and add urgency to a...
I’m a little late to this one - in fact too late - as not many of these were made - and seemingly they’re all sold out now. These were priced at just $150 and were available direct from Hungry Robot. $150 is really exceptional value for a pedal which consists of 2 different Reverbs, 2 Chorus Modes, a Low Pass Filter, and a Distortion - and features Dual Footswitches too!
Controls - Hollow (Low Pass Filter), Bloom (Long Decay Pad Reverb), Layer (Octave Up + Down Reverb), Chorale (2-Mode ...
My friend Marc from Tark Audio was one of the first to go down this route back in late 2023 - with his Tark 144 Tape Machine Emulator - of course based on the 1979 Tascam 144 4-Track Multitrack Cassette Tape Recorder. TASCAM is of course ’Teac Audio System Company of America - so you can argue that it’s a Japanese device - per the parent company - or an American device - per the subsidiary.
Josh Scott was the first mainstream operator to deliver the Tascam 424 Portastudio sounds favoured by...
So Boss delivers its first compact Multi-FX pedal - with all those early classic Boss Pedals onboard. This is obviously fairly similar to TC Electronic’s Plethora X1 from the tail end of last year - which had 14 effects at launch but has added a few more since - compared to Boss’s 8+8 at launch - where 8 Effects are onboard by default - and once you register your pedal on the dedicated Effects Loader App - you can access 8 more in that App (which requires a Roland Cloud Account) - which App can...
So I spotted both of these at the same time - where both kind of share an army green colourway - while the Pique is a slightly lighter hue, and the Utility is slightly darker. In any case - because of their similarity of hue - I decided to tackle them together! Think of it as simply a colour-themed association - while both somewhat overlap in certain aspects!
Both of these have a large Boost / Volume knob, and then some extra switches / controls for smartly ramping up / re-shaping or re-...
July was a tough month for me! Plenty going on for sure - and I had a particularly traumatic Sunday a couple of weeks back - when I was unable to get any sound out of my pedal-chain for the best part of that day. At the end of that I retired incredibly frustrated and kind of distraught - which zapped whatever remaining energy I had - and left me entirely shattered.
After a night’s sleep - I turned up a little sharper on the following day - and was able to fairly quickly and systematically ...
So I’ve very much decided that the principal application for this circuit is as a fixer and tone-enhancer. I’m sure some will use it as an always-on boost, and others still might crank the Gain Boost and use it as an Overdrive, while my feeling is that the best use for this pedals is as a precision-honed tone-enhancer.
So this means that where you have a pedal in the chain which is not quite delivering for you in how you want it to sound - say it’s missing a little of this or that, and is a...
NOTE that these were originally supposed to be in stock last week - on the 20th, then today on the 26th - but are still not in stock somehow - I’ve no idea what’s going on here - this article has been ready for over a week now - and frankly I have other things to be getting on with - so I’m just making it live now (with a change to the title) and moving on with other projects.
Andertons has been somewhat unusually lax of late with its ’coming into stock’ notices - I’ve pre-ordered several pedals...
