January has been a bumper start for the year - with lots of killer arrivals - especially the DSM & Humboldt Dumblifier which I’ve been hugely impressed with.
Also my most formidable NAMM coverage to-date - where I only started work properly on the 8th of January - but have managed to do 60 articles since that time - which is a record of course, as is the week of 20 posts.
I feel I covered all the key moments - and mixed up new and old in my usual inimitable fashion.
There was ...
The RoomMate D’luxe was announced at NAMM, where the Fuzztopia was out late last year - where I did not manage to fit it into my schedule.
It seems very timely now since the RoomMate D’luxe is in the same format - and those 2 pedal pair very well together.
The RoomMate D’luxe delivers 8 x Tube saturated Modes covering off all the main Reverb food groups - Room, Hall, Plate and Shimmer Hall.
And the Fuzztopia Dual Channel Fuzz + Distortion is fairly distinct for having separate Dry ...
This is the 2nd Iteration for this article - where we go from a selection of 13 to 16.
I landed 4 of these these last year - the Crazy Tube Circuits Heatseeker, Flattley Outlaw, Fortin Kali, and Tubesteader Gainlord.
And two early this year - the Car Martin PlexiRanger and Seymour Duncan Diamondhead
We have 4 distinct types of pedals here across 4 format sizes (Compact / Mid-Horizontal / Mid-Vertical / Large) :
What we have here is a similar technology to that featured on recent Positive Grid Spark Modelling Amps - where you use AI Prompts to define sounds and effects.
The Polyend Endless consists of a main 3-Knob Pedal Unit with Swappable Magnetic Face Plates, and a ’Playground’ App (currently in Beta) - for generating the various effects and algorithms.
The pedal further has dual footswitches - so you can assign one for tap-tempo or boost duties presumably. In and Out ports are TRS ...
I first covered the Diamondhead back in November of 2019, and it’s been on the wishlist ever since. I guess I was never presented with the right opportunity - until I came across it during my Christmas visit to Reykjavik’s 2 main pedal shops - Tónastöðin and Hljóðfærahúsið.
It turns out that it was the only reasonably priced pedal that I encounter in Iceland - where it was priced at 32,500 ISK which amounts to around £192 equivalent. I had my father in tow - and he managed to wrangle a ...
Most are familiar with this format by now - as it’s near enough the same as MXR’s 5150 Overdrive. Obviously this Red edition is the 3rd Channel - the Red Lead Channel from that EVH 51510 III Amp.
Apart from the extra gain, sear and saturation we also have a new Bass Shift control - which gives you two options of the Bass Centre Frequency.
Controls - Gate, Output, Bass, Bass Shift : 55Hz / 80Hz, Mid, Treble, Gain, Boost.
I wonder how much this was influenced by the equally red Anti ...
I must start by congratulating Phoebe on her excellent artwork here - which is one of her best works to date. Where that all-green metallic flake finish looks so fabulous ’in the flesh’ and is beautifully accentuated by a matching green Halo LED.
This is my second favourite looking Flattley pedal after the recent all-red Outlaw. I’m really loving these tone-on-tone designs.
And as for the core voicing of this device - it really is one of the most vibrant and amp-like experiences I have ...
This was one of my priority targets for last year - where it landed at Northern Stompboxes towards the end of that year - and I was determined to land it as early as possible this year.
Controls - Q1 Gain, Blue Button Fuzz / Distortion Switch, White Button Fixed High Pass Filter Switch, V] Volume, A] Attenuate Input, C] Q2 Bias, F] First Order Low Pass Filter.
Key Features
The Peace Fuzz was one of my targets for last year, and I indeed did an article back in August of last year with the aim to get one in during that year. I used to have a main contact at MLA - called Mark - who just stopped responding to me all of a sudden. I had helped him connect with a number of my good demo friends - including Andy Martin, Shawn Tubbs, and Alberto Barrero - I had set all those up - but Mark did not follow up for whatever reason. And shortly after that kind of started ...
I’ve pictured all 5 Mini Editions released to date - while only 3 of these are currently available at Joe’s Pedals - the ’69 and ’71 Colordrivers, and the Two Face Fuzz Face - which I own in original full-size edition - per the centrally pictured pedal in the visual!
The mini Pedals mostly have the same controls - as you can see by the 2 Colordriver models - which still have those 4 knobs (including one on the side), while the Mini Two Face drops the Input Gain knob which comes with the ...
