So I’ve kind of lost touch with Missing Link Audio over the years. I used to have a pretty solid relationship and reliable contact that just became less and less responsive - to a point where I was just being actively ghosted.
I had helped said imprint source quality demos - connecting them to some of my great Demo Friends - including Andy Martin and Shawn Tubbs - I did the introductions and handovers, and my MLA contact then seemingly proceeded to burn bridges - which made be look bad too. I guess that was at the root of the exile that followed.
While as I always do - I still keep an eye on proceedings - and if I do encounter something which sounds particularly and notably decent - I feel the need to report on that. I own several of the earlier Missing Link models - but like I said - their communications dried up - and much like my Demo contacts I ended up being ghosted too!
I don’t feel any particular enmity here - just a sadness and regret - as the early rapport was pretty solid - I’ve no idea why that went off the rails. In the meantime MLA have continued to release some rather decent pedals, and while it’s not quite a full amnesty yet, enough time has passed for me to be in a slightly more generous mood.
Controls - Level, Attack (Fuzz Intensity), Vintage Voice 1 / Modern Voice 2 (more mids presumably!), Tone 1 for Voice 1, Tone 2 for Voice 2.
As is often the case with binary functions - they could have done with putting the Voicing toggle onto a second footswitch!.
The output of this pedal sounds really classy - those Germanium Diodes can be extraordinarily good at delivery engaging textures - as I can vouch for courtesy of my ThorpyFX Heavy Water Dual-Boost. In fact parts of this pedal’s output bring to mind the Cornerstone Nero Dumble-Fuzz - another Fuzz variant invented for players who’re not really into fuzz! Likewise you have the Funny Little Boxes ’Caught By The Fuzz’. While the Peace Fuzz’s textures are particularly silky!
I’m genuinely considering adding one of these to the reference collection - and possibly conducting a retrospective on those pedals I’ve not covered in the intervening period. I was after a couple of pedals back in the day - where I had been afforded an artist discount for a while. But the communications dried up - and I never received a response - at which point I considered myself exiled - in a similar way to how I was exiled from Empress Effects a couple of years back!
Times are tough for pedal brands these days - and I still continue doing my best to shine a light and elevate pedals of interest. This Peace Fuzz seems to fit the bill - while I’m still not entirely over my exile, and am yet to set a priority on this pedal’s acquisitionl.
Price-wise the Peace Fuzz can be had for $179.99 courtesy of the Missing Link Audio Webstore.
If I do decide to get back into bed with Missing Link Audio - there certainly seem to be enough new and recent pedals to get stuck back into - maybe I will do a retrospective roundup.
As the saying goes - ’Once bitten, Twice shy’. And I’m still not entirely over my exile - which is one of 3, as documented, actually one of 4 ghostings. I’ve started covering the other two brands again as different parties have reached out to me - while those pedals are still emblazoned with my Rebel Alliance Jedi Order hybrid insignia - in fact recently joined by Cornerstone for similar reasons. I wonder if there will be any follow-up or follow-on from this post!? And if anyone of those ghosts will ever make contact again??
