Death By Audio retools its Octave Clang Octave Distortion - now with added Octave Footswitch

I believe the first version of this was initially launched back in 2009 or thereabouts - 3 control knobs and a single footswitch. This new V2 Edition of Octave Clang has an additional ’Octave’ Footswitch - so that you can play with or without the ring modulation style Octave effect.

"The OCTAVE CLANG V2 is a pseudo-ring/distortion/noise/octave pedal that creates its unique sound from a specially sourced transformer and precision-matched diodes. This generates extremely rich harmonics and pure totally analog octave up."

"The octave effect is created by adding two out-of-phase half-wave rectified copies of your signal together. This works well for single notes, but when complex chords and waveforms are presented to the circuit, it mangles and twists them in an organic and beautifully chaotic way."

The overall dimensions seem to be identical to the original - while the control topology is arranged vertically rather than the newer horizontal layout you see here.

Controls - Volume, Intensity (Gain), Shape (Tilt EQ).

The pedal generates +38 decibels of output - which is significant, and you can further tune that output by way of and internal Bias trimmer. This new edition allows you to output just the straight core distortion, and then you can kick it up a level by engaging the Octave footswitch.

As always, I would have preferred this in a compact enclosure - but the fact that it has top-mounted jacks makes it still relatively pedalboard friendly.

We’re kind of spoilt for choice at the moment with Upper Octave Fuzz / Distortion pedals - and this is another that is right up there. I really like this, but there are other recent ones that are probably just a touch more to my liking.

This is a great update on the original though and should be pretty popular.

The V2 Octave Clang retails for $225 / €269 / £239 and is available for orders from the Death By Audio Webstore, and imminently at leading international dealers.
