You very rarely see a Tremolo pedal without a Rate / Speed function - yet here we have exactly one such variant.
As Tremolos go this is about as simple as it gets, with just 3 simple controls at your command :
Controls - Level, Depth, Shape : Sine > Square Wave.
I can’t help thinking that this pedal could do with one or two more controls. As it is, it’s a really cool effect - but really very one note - as all you can really do here is vary the intensity of the effect.
You can ...
The much celebrated Waitlist Wednesday is back tomorrow - in fact from midnight tonight! Where you can PREORDER each of Reeves Electro’s Point-to-Point Builds. For most pedals it’s a case of unlimited preorders, while for the BlackHatSound-Deluxe - because of parts availability restrictions - those are limited to just 10, and the Plus Distortions are limited to 25.
Here is the full list with the all-important prices!
I’ve obviously just recently covered Licthlaerm Audio, and Daniel Ringl’s extended-range approach to compact pedal making. And Bispell Audio’s Tom is another such pedal pioneer - delivering the most exceptional value extended-range circuits. My favourite to date is definitely his fairly recently updated Gleam Vintage Silicon Multi-Fuzz, where I also have and love his not so long since updated Saxon (JTM45 + Plexi), and Proxy (Vox UL730).
The Saxon, Proxy and Gleam have all stepped up to 8 ...
When I acquired my acrylic-faced edition of Mattoverse Just a Phase Phaser back in October of 2021 - I told Matt at the time that I would love to have a matching acrylic faced AirTrash - as both use the same 3 - Red, Blue and Yellow Metallic primary colours knobs - and they would look amazing together. Matt though being a fiercely independent sort had various plans and projects to get through first, and we finally get the matching pair nearly 3 years later!
Even though both pedals are ...
Thanks first to Ross from Cusack Music and Simon from Guitar FX Direct for helping to make this happen. This is a super limited release and I’m truly fortunate to be able to get my hands on one. I explained in the launch article how I had acquired pedals direct from Cusack Music in the past, while post Brexit complexities mean that they are among a number of American builders who don’t ship direct to the UK any more. Just as well then that we have Simon’s Guitar FX Direct as the UK Dealer for ...
It’s been quite the epic journey for me to get to Lichtlaerm Audio - which goes all the way back to February of 2020 - where I believe I was the first Pedal Blog to feature Daniel Ringl’s original first incarnation line of pedals - which had white graphics onto black facias , on top of wine-red gloss-finished enclosures (Update! - looked like white print in photos, but Daniel says - "the old line-up was silver prints directly on smooth black enclosures - the photos looked a bit white but it was...
This is such a smart idea - using Bit-Crushing, Sample Rate Reduction, Aliasing and Warble together to generate the most awesome of somewhat jagged and brittle artifacts-loaded digitally mangled fuzz textures. You really get some very interesting timbres here - not all necessarily entirely musical - but each a glorious dissonance in its own way.
I’ve always called myself principally a ’Noise Maker’ and this type of effect is exactly the kind of thing I’m constantly on the look out for. ...
Lastgasp’s Octavella Upper Octave Fuzz is well known for its fantastic and complex full fat searing texture. It has so much sear on tap in fact - that you need to be very careful in particularly how you deploy the Gain and Feedback Knobs - if you ride those too high you get a very obvious feedback ’whistle’ which for me I was able to dial out for my perfect settings.
You’re basically tuning the Gain and Feedback knobs in tandem - making micro-adjustments to ensure that you don’t get any ...
Supposedly the world’s best loved Autowah / Envelope Filter - has been improved further - for better headroom to match up with any scenario, a new Side Chain Input, and some refinements to the super clean boost.
The charm of the DiscumBOBulator has always been its simplicity in use - just 4 knobs to thing about - and the Boost one is optional. You simply decide if the Filter Slope is Up or Down, and then you tune in the Funk!
I have a plethora of Envelope Filter pedals that serve as ...
Readers will be aware that I recently added 2 further Dumble style Overdrives to the reference collection. First the Menatone Dumbstruck V2, and then most recently the superb Tanabe Zenkudo.
I’ve decided that I’m at a point now where this selection is fully representative of this genre, of course I do have a few more targets in this category, while I feel I now have most of the major top-tier contenders. Notably missing here is Robben Ford’s evidently much loved Lovepedal / Hermida Zen ...
