So this new H9 is essentially a fully-loaded Single Core variant of the H90. The larger H90 predecessor allows you to deploy 2 x Stereo Effects simultaneously - and hence is referred to as a Dual-Core Multi-Effects Processor. Where the new Gen 2 H9 has all the same key features and functions as the H90 - but can only deploy a single Stereo Effect at a time - hence Single-Core.
The original unit had a cool looking but pretty useless onboard interface - which was mostly saved by the Bluetooth...
I seemed to have missed the January Model Passes update - I believe I was on holiday at the time - those were the OD-2 Turbo OverDrive (1985-95), DM-2 Delay (1981-84), and DC-2 Dimension C (1985-89). I own 2 of those actual original pedals already, actually the DC-2W Waza variety, where I’ve still to get the DM-2/W - and I would really prefer that as a BBD type - but probably still also have that handy on my PX-1. It would actually be quite cool to get both DC-2 and DM-2 Models for my PX-1. ...
So one control becomes 4, as the Spritz! pedal expands from Mini to Compact Format.
A really cool Aperol-themed pedal - now evolved into an amp-like overdrive and saturator with a few more controls, and a switchable JFET Tube Emulator.
Controls - CORE / COMP } Sustain, Volume, JFET TUBE EMULATOR } Green On Button, and light-up Mini Master Volume Knob.
The new pedal is both handsome and really potent - with still a very simple control topology. A fantastic stacking option for sure, ...
There were all kinds of weird rumours going around before the launch of this pedal - I though it was more likely to be a sympathetic resonance modulator / filter style thing - where there are filters here - but used rather to define the different delay voicings.
This is mostly a digital device, I’m not 100% clear on the inflection of ’Hybrid’ in respect to Delay here - as there are no specific analog / BBD delay-line components that I’m aware of. This is very much a sibling to the CXM 1978 ...
This is the 3rd Walrus Effects Compressor I’ve covered on this site, a cool replacement for the Mira - with the additional VU display and modes, as well as the Sidechain High Pass Filter.
The enclosure follows the styling set by the recent Mantle Bass Preamp, but in portrait format. It comes with a $100 hike in price too (vs the Mira) - but is mostly kind of worth it, while I would have preferred a more compact enclosure.
As I’ve said previously - you need to decide what your lane is ...
Supposedly the secret sauce / magic ingredient of many a classic studio recordings was the use of these Compander + Boost devices. Which Compress, Expand, and Sweeten your core tone. We often thing that the core components - the amps and pedals and guitar matter the most - while the final sound was frequently down to this kind of studio magic - now available in a compact stompbox - for legendary front-of-chain action!
I already have a system of boosts at the heart of my rig - but I really ...
We all know Joe Anastasio for his long-standing Lone Wolf Audio brand - Left Hand Wrath etc. while he now has a new umbrella brand ’Void Manufacturing’ which covers both Void and Lone Wolf Audio brands of pedals, alongside Void Modular Eurorack Devices.
My good friend Joe Light of Joe’s Pedals in Exeter, UK now stocks a range of Void Manufacturing and Lone Wolf Audio Pedals - which feature 8 new varieties - 3 of which have alternative colourway editions.
The range consists of 5 x Large,...
Everyone should be familiar with the MXR Rockman X100 Headphone Amp / Analog Tone Processor by now - which the MXR pedal of the same name is derived from. It was one of last year’s big releases - where I acquired mine back in March of that year.
But the XR100 was only one of several Tom Sholz signature devices. He made a far more expansive Rockman Sustainor Rack Unit - which is here in HTJ-Works’ beautifully streamlined 10-Controls HWS-100AS Sustainor PreAmp compact unit - which for me is ...

The blurb says something about the Pillbug being inspired by both the Boss CS-2 Compressions Sustainer, as well as the Ross Compressor - while those are 2 slightly different technologies - the first being a FET type, and the latter an OTA type. I’m guessing they mean that they have captured the warmth of the Boss CS-2 along with the added brightness of the Ross Compressor - which in turn was just 2 pars away from the MXR Dynacomp Compressor
