My friend Stephen at Northern Stompboxes is very much on a roll with his smart selection of cool new brands. I covered the Moth Electric M.Stellatarum 32-Combination Multi-Mode Optical Analog Tremolo back in October of last year - which very much remains a major target for me - and which I can now acquire much more efficiently and expediently from a friend!
I buy in a lot of pedals from the 4 corners of the world - and you often get stung with high shipping charges, and exorbitant customs and import fees. Which can add as much as £100 or more to the face value of said pedal.
So my number one Electric Moth target can now be acquired locally - which is always good news for me!
There are currently 5 Moth Electric Pedals in stock at Northern Stompboxes as follows :
You have a Multi-Clipping Distoriton, Natural Overdrive, Multi-Mode Optical Tremolo, and 2 different varieties of Big Muff.
All these pedals are somewhat extended range - and come with the perfect complement of controls. I always love to have a Mids control on my Big Muffs - and here you also have 2 Modes and Clean Blend - highly potent for sure.
This is kind of in a similar vogue to Caroline Guitar Co. Where all the pedals are in 1590BB size enclosures - these mostly justify that larger format - the Dual-Footswitch M. Stellatarum Tremolo in particular.
Americans can of course buy direct from Moth Electric. While this is the first time these are available in the UK!
More details on each below :

Controls - Bass, Mid, Treble, Volume, Clipping : Germanium / FET / Silicon / Asymmetrical / LED, Drive.
A really versatile Multi-Cliping Distortion with 5 Clipping Options and 3-Band EQ. Pretty much a perfect complement of controls - very well appointed indeed!
Controls - Bass, Treble, Drive, Volume, Voice : Smooth / Crunchy, Blend.
Described as a Natural Singing Overdrive - so somewhat Organic and Transparent in nature presumably - and with 2-Band EQ onboard and a Clean Blend. A great take on an overdrive with 2 Voicings - Smooth and Crunchy. Pretty much everything Moth Electric makes is really well considered and thought out!
Controls - Volume, Tone, Depth, Speed, Sub : 1/16 / 1/8 / 1/4 / 1/2, Waveforms : Sawtooth / Reverse Sawtooth / Square / Triangle / Sine / Hypertriangle / Reverse Hypertriangle / Random Level Generator, Mode : Treble Frequencies / Bass Frequencies / Harmonic Tremolo / Amplitude Tremolo / Tap Tempo Footswitch, Bypass Footswitch.
My pick of the bunch - an incredible all-rounder Tremolo - which covers both Amplitude and Harmonic Tremolo types and so much more. This is the right size and right lane for me. I always say you need to decide what degree of complexity and coverage you want from your effect and how much real estate you wish to commit to one effect - if you're a total tremolo nut - then perhaps the Intrepid Audio Crossflow is the one for you - while for me the M. Stellatarum is my perfect candidate - and it will feature on my board very soon!
Controls - Tone, Mids, Fuzz, Volume, Mode : Classic / Modern, Blend
This is the first of two Big Muff types - where those two types are typically the most popular of the Big Muff varieties. The Green Russian has more low end to its profile typically, and the Ram's Head is a little more cutting and searing. Both of these have the perfect complement of controls - including the essential Mids Control, and a Blend control - making these perfect for bassists too. In addition you have Classic and Modern modes onboard. These are fantastic takes on the Big Muff format.
Controls - Tone, Mids, Fuzz, Volume, Mode : Classic / Modern, Blend.
This Ram's Head variant has the same super handy control topology of its sibling. It is typified by a somewhat higher gain and more searing tone, where the Green Russian retain the most 'Bass' in its output profile. For most Muff aficionados - these are the 2 favourite variants, while I would also add the original Triangle variety into the mix - that's typically my favourite favourite. I own around 120 Big Muffs to-date, and I'm due to receive the mother of all Big Muffs - Dazatronyx's Big Fuzz Console - any day now!
