Orange has a new simplified compressor out - in mid-size enclosure - with the minimal perfect complement of just 4 controls - featuring essential Attack and Release controls - with Release somewhat oddly appearing first!
Controls - Volume, Compressions, Release, Attack.
This monochrome design is something of a departure from the Green, Orange and Peach of the previous Getaway Driver, Fur Coat Octave Fuzz, and indeed the aforementioned Kongpressor. That previous 5-knob format seems to be discontinued in favour of the new one.
The King Comp is yours for just £159 and equivalent courtesy of the Orange Amps Webstore - at a very decent price point. While I personally would have preferred it in compact enclosure. It’s interesting how most of these amp companies are still churning out somewhat over-sized 90’s style of effects.
A further bonus for the King Comp is the large LED - which indicates the degree of compression - but turning from Cyan Blue to Pink!
The King Comp carries most f the design tropes of the previous pedals - with that protective bar separating the controls from the footswitch.
So a decent effort for sure - while a little old-school in some ways!
There is no demo for this pedal yet - which is often the case for compressors - which can be tricky to demo convincingly!
So for sound sample reference - I’ve included the early Kongpressor Demo - which is also a VCA type!
