This has turned out to be the largest category for 2025 with 38 pedals in this selection. As I favour those pedals that I own first, and then the more pedalboard-friendly editions - inevitably there would be some casualties for the year. With the most significant of those being the larger format Meris Enzo X, and the Polyend MESS Multi-Effect Step Sequencer. I know there are some who favour each of those - but they just aren’t targets for me personally.
I always talk about having a lane - ...
This release came in very quick and hard! It’s happening more and more that pedal brands release limited special editions just for Black Friday. Originally those were just unique artwork variants - while latterly we’re getting entirely new and unique secret project circuits / pedals.
I love most everything Gamechanger does - while not every pedal necessarily fits in practically within my own usage requirements and preferences. Traditionally Gamechanger devices have all been rather oversized...
The Mood is Chase Bliss’s most perennially popular and celebrated bestseller - by far and away the most sold Chase Bliss pedal to date.
It also happens to have had the most different special and limited edition artworks - and I’ve selected 4 each of those for the Mood I and Mood II - I’m sure I’ve probably overlooked 1 or 2 variants - while hopefully I’ve covered all he best looking ones!
Up until now the Light Bright edition was my favourite - while I feel that may have been pipped by the new ...
Kinotone’s Jaak Jenson is proving to be one of the finest sound engineers of his generation - with a trio now of killer unique pedals.
I wasn’t sure how I would deploy the Ribbons in my chain - so that one’s still on the ’maybe’ list - lots of my friends really love it, and use it for all kinds of things - while I’m still seeking a proper connection there.
I did get the Sparks Harmonic Processor - or Stereo Overdrive + State Variable Filter + Wavefolder. I mostly got that one because of...
I would like to start by thanking my sister Katrín (Bína) for accompanying me to the Jo Quail Masterclass / Loop Station Showcase / Performance - she took near enough all the best pictures here - and the video excerpt below - those are all hers - I should bring her along more often! We both really enjoyed ’experiencing’ Jo Quail - whose immersive microtonal symphonies take you entirely out of this world!
Jo spoke of sculpture and sound design, and being inspired by the national treasure ...
Walrus Audio is next in line for one of my Brand Capsule Collection roundups / rounding exercises! - and as usual I swept up a few more longer-term targets along the way - so that I now own 11 Walruses! The ones I picked up in this latest sweep - included the 385 MKII Dynamic Overdrive, Kangra Filter Fuzz, and Slötvå - the 3 x Preset enhanced short-lived variation of the Slö Shimmer Reverb!
This means that I have just 2 ongoing targets - the fairly recent MKII Voyager Klon Klone, and the ...
Walrus Audio has unleashed a really cool and unusual Dual Channel Looper with some really smart creative abilities - especially for Poly Mode which is able to combine and quantize passages of varying length and time signatures - really super smart. And overall it’s really rather intuitive - with some degree of depth of variation - but mostly fully surfaced for immediate engagement.
I really like the abilities of this new looper - I’m not sure there is another quite like it - and it would be...
I first met Arlo Anwin - one of the 2 main projects for multi-instrumentalist Chris Woods - at Boss’s ’In The Loop’ event at Studio 9294, Hackney Wick back in October of 2022. His other main project is The Chris Woods Groove Orchestra. And Studio 9294 is now the home of the London Synth and Pedal Expo - and benefits from a superb canal-side location, with excellent sort of gastropub next door - the Number 90 Bar. ...
So TC Electronic / Behringer have done a pretty decent job here in massively updating the entry-level mini Ditto Looper. It now has a number of smart features and different Modes onboard. While they’ve messed up the brand cachet a little with the new styling - the enclosure is significantly less rounded / rolled at the edges, and the typographic; treatment kind of at odds with the original and previous variants.
While they really should have kept the joined up OO’s in ’LOOPER’ - where that ...
Mooer was due to be at the recent London Synth and Pedal Expo that I attended over the weekend, but ended up being a casualty of the Heathrow Substation Fire - the only pedal that got there in time was its GS1000 Intelligent Amp Profiling Processor and there was some kind of power supply issue with that - so it needed to be retired on the very first day!
I was hoping to see the GL100 Looper and this Prime M2 at the show - while alas neither of those pedals made it in the end!
The Prime...
