This is my first exposure to Puremagnetik - where this is actually their second pedal, preceded by the LAPS Multitrack Collage Machine.

Puremagnetik seemingly mines sort of similar territory to Chase Bliss, Discomfort Designs and Kinotone - creating micro-looper style manipulators and multi-track layering and effects shaping.

The JOTS consists of 2 x 30 second Samples / Buffers / Tracks which you manipulate in various ways. There are 2 x toggle-switches, one sets which Track you are shaping - One or Two. And you then have 2 Playback Modes - DUB which allows you to effect your sample with live movements / knob adjustments. The GEN mode consists of 3 independent LFO’s which each drift your sample start point.

I believe this is a classic sort of micro-looper / sampler / over-sampler - where you can manipulate and combine 2 Sample Tracks in various ways. Adjusting the start and end points for instance, direction and ducking.

Controls : Buffer / Sample Start, Sample End, Tone, < Reverse | Hide (ducking) >, Split (crossfade), Blend, Mode : DUB (Live Movement of Sample) / GEN (3 x LFO Sample Drift), Samples / Buffers : One / Two, Capture / Clear Footswitch.

LED Status

  • White : Track is empty
  • Red : Recording in progress
  • Yellow : Track has a recoding (DUB Mode)
  • Blue : Track has a recording (GEN Mode)

Footswitch Actions

  • Single Click - Toggle Recording On/Off
  • Triple Click - Erase the current track
  • Hold 2 Seconds - Clear both tracks and reset JOTS to default state

The Pricing of the JOTS is $290 - available from the Puremagnetik Webstore, where the features are a little more streamlined than you get on the other brands I mentioned at the start. And therefore a shorter learning curve hopefully!

I’ve yet to decide the priority on this one, but it certainly has a distinct appeal for me. I could see myself deploying this on my board. It’s a full stereo effect - so that I can be very flexible where I place it on the board.

I typically go through a process to figure out how and where I would deploy a specific pedal. On occasion I can’t see any obvious way forward, a certain pedal might just not suit my preferences and sensibilities and I then move onto other priorities.

While I really quite like this one - so its a definite maybe for me.

I feel I get the gist of this one really well. It’s relatively straightforward to understand.

There are further nuances to this device - which you read up on courtesy of the JOTS manual.
