The ’Blackie’ Guitar is Matt’s favourite weapon of choice - and his main studio tool as such across so many albums. It features at least 3 different pickups - as listed below, I feel the original version of this guitar also had a Piezo pickup in the Bridge. Also onboard are a Kill-Switch, MIDI Control Strip (for Digitech Whammy etc.), an FL Wah copper control pad and further controls, and a Zvex Fuzz Factory. The core guitar features 3-way Pickup Control with accompanying volume and tone knobs. The original version of this guitar had the Zvex Wah Probe as its Wah tool - which in the current model is replaced by a custom developed FL Wah.
The amount of features onboard is incredible and unparalleled in many ways, and I’m not sure many players can do this guitar justice besides Matt himself. This is such a signature instrument - with so many smart details wholly designed for specific Matt Bellamy usage scenarios.
The guitar is aimed at those with deeper pockets than me - I for sure could not do this guitar justice - it’s a little like buying a formula 1 car!
Of course I would love to own one as the massive Matt Bellamy fan that I am - but I really would not be able to put it to best use!
I fear these will sit on many a millionaire’s walls. While I still approve that you can now get one of these for yourself - for the princely sum of £11,999 (£2,000 deposit) for the Pristine edition, and £1K more for the Relic New Era Versions - and deposit for that!
’New Era’ denotes some modern concessions to bring the price down a little on a couple of the editions. The full-fat exact recreation model is at £29,999 with a £5K deposit. Matt is of course the principal owner of Manson these days - so I dare say he will end up with most of the high end models here!
This is a legendary guitar for sure - but incredibly advanced also, and not really worth it as such - unless you intend to put the full feature set to use.
I’ve leant into the more ’affordable’ models here - where none of these are particularly affordable - while £12K and £13K are certainly quite a bit less than the full-fat £30K one!
I feel that even if I had the funds I’m still not sure I could justify the ownership of one of these guitars. It would be like have a Formula 1 car in you garage!
