Readers will know that I’m something of a fan of Brian May’s Treble-Boosted / Top-Boosted Vox sound, and I’m on a mission to pick up as many variants of the Treble Booster as I can!
I’m off to a bit of a slow start - as the only one I’ve collected to date is the HSE Brian May style Treble Booster. I mean to get the official KAT BMG Treble Booster Classic (£275), and I also mean to get this Reeves Electro May Boost. While that lands too late in the month for me - and the budget is long blown before then - in fact September has been a particularly busy month for me on the acquisition front. In any case I’m not in a position to snag one of these first 20 - but will need to swing back around for the second batch - whoever that may land!
Controls - Boost, Voice : Dynamite / Laser Beam (Killer Queen!)
Similar to the HSE take - this May Boost has an onboard transformer, but instead of 2 knobs - we get a Boost knob, and a 2-way Voicing switch - Dynamite and Laser Beam! The Voicing Switch is essentially a rudimentary EQ - where Dynamite yields darker tones, and Laser Beam delivers brighter tones.
"It also has a secret weapon under the hood, an input transformer, wired to act as an inductor right at the input of the pedal, which has a couple of benefits :
This is designed to go into a slightly rainy / already cooking amp - where it will then crisp up the output in the style of Brian May.
This is a classic Reeves Electro Point-to-Point release - centred around the Micro Electronics C1016R Red Dot Transistor.
20 Units will be available at 8pm BST on Saturday Evening, September 27th - from the Reeves Electro Webstore - and price at £360 and equivalent!
