I’ve been following this project for a while - and it’s great to see that this is live and out in the world now. Such a clever solution for Midi - as well as to help you decipher what’s going on with your pedal!
So many pedals have poor interfaces - and insufficient signage / pilot lights etc. to fully represent every state, preferences, or parameter changes!
The ’Scribble’ doesn’t just help you decipher what’s going on - it’s a really smart MIDI switcher - that can control 128 Presets and Custom MIDI Control Commands.
You don’t now need a large scale MIDI switcher - but instead can deploy MIDI direct to each pedal that needs it. I’m guessing some double-sided 3M / Scotch tape will lock in those mini controllers onto the appropriate pedal. The controller is just a tiny bit larger than the width of a compact 125B type pedal - so it should be able to be accommodated in most scenarios.
I’m not particularly big on MIDI Controllers myself - but do use one for my Kernom Moho pedal in particular. I believe a lot of the early prototyping for the ’Scibble’ was done with Chase Bliss pedals - which are extremely fuzzy MIDI pedals and can lead to some quite complex MIDI control situations. So it’s heartening to see these lock in with the greatest of ease.
Everything about these is designed to be simple and effortless - and these wholly demystify MIDI - and give you better and clearer control over your MIDI pedals - I would thinks Chase Bliss and Universal Audio might be the most common applications for these.
I’m certainly considering getting one for my Lost & Found pedal - but that will need to wait until next year as I’ve completed my gear acquisitions for the year - and December is mostly about reflecting on the best releases of the year - so the cut off point for me is this Friday!
I look forward to checking one of these out in the new year. Here below are all the details you need in handy chunks.
These are just $59 each, and come in Black or White from the Pirate MIDI Webstore. I tend to mostly choose black - as white shows off dirt too much! Black is better at keeping its looks!
Here below follow the further details - after the visual of the App - which again is designed to be as effortless and simple as possible - and allows you to customise and change the colours of both Text and Backgrounds.
This is one of the great technical innovations of the year - and I’m convinced we will see these all over the place next year. I certainly look forward to getting hold of one or a few!
