Here we have the familiar form of the typical Xotic Effects Wah Pedal - all 210mms of it - which is now housing an enhanced EP Booster and Volume Controller. This compares to the tiny EP Booster which is just 89mm long. While the EP-Pro might share a name - it’s a significantly different proposition many times the size of the mini - and with a much more extensive feature set. I have an Alchemy Audio modded edition of the EP Booster which externalises the 2 dip-switches.
The EP-Pro isn’t really a replacement for the EP Booster - its footprint is much more extensive. I personally am not a fan of these large-format typical Wah-Pedal formats - as you can see by my favourite Plutoneium Chi-Wah-Wah, and CryBaby Mini expression and volume pedals - all those are the same size as a typical compact - at around 122mm long.
EP Booster Controls - Single Gain Knob (+3dB), internal dipper ; 1. ↑ +3dB | 2. ↑ Bright Switch.
EP-Pro Preamp Controls - Boost On/Off, Volume Treadle, Master Volume, Gain, Treble, Bass.
There’s much to like about this new edition - while it’s beyond the size I’m typically in favour of. I can appreciate its extended feature set - and Volume controller dynamic. And if you’re considering a full-size Volume pedal - then this covers that and delivers a lot more.
I’m sensitive on enclosure sizes - and I would only be comfortable with this variant within a more typically compact enclosure that I prefer.
I still feel this is a good proposition - and the perfect tool for certain players. You are paying a premium price for a premium product - and this is currently $295 on the Xotic Effects Webstore.
