So the somewhat oddly named Portafilter Multi-Drive is one of those smart analog circuits with digital controls. Which empowers you with incredible versatility here - where we essentially have 6 x total overdrives, 2 x distortions, 2 x three band EQ’s. And you have 6 onboard Presets and 20 via MIDI to make it all work for you!
The 3-Band EQ consist of the fully variable Bass and Treble controls, and a 3-way Mid control - with Flat / Scoop / Boost options.
Controls - 2 x Bass, Treble, Volume, Gain, Style : TS / BB / KC, Mid : Flat / Scoop / Boost, Clip : Soft / Hard, then OD2 and OD1 Footswitches (Hold OD1 for Presets) - separated by a Channel Order Rocker-switch.
Ports - TS Input, 3.5 / 1/8" MIDI, 9V DC [-] 500mA, TS Output.
This is such a smart take on a Multi-Drive - where you have a greater than the sum of is part 3-Voice Overdrive - Screaner / Breaker / Klone across 2 sides- and those LED’s light up in sequence for your selected mode options - a little like on the Chase Bliss Automatone Preamp MKII.
.
For a variety of reasons - including symmetry and further expansion - I would have been tempted to offer a 3rd Clipping Option - ’No Clipping’ which normally sounds fantastic.
That’s about the only change I would want to make here - this is such a clever drive pedal - and those push-button switches make it incredibly easy to dial in!
I would have loved to have had hands-on with this pedal - as I would have been able to write so much stronger. While alas time did not allow for one to be send out to me for launch. So you will need someone else to verify just how good this is. It certainly has the features set - while there are various aspects that I cannot weigh up from a remote position. Including feel and touch-sensitivity, and clean up prowess.
The Portafilter Dual Programmable Overdrive goes for $499 CAD / $363 USD / €312 / £271 - available for preorders now from the Coffee Shop Pedals Webstore - with shipping starting early November.
