Blue FX Devices shoe-horns the Core of its amazing flagship Fuzz Fields into the 2-Mode Piluxx Fuzz - housed in a cool 1970's electrical switch enclosure

The Fuzz Fields is one of my favourite ever fuzzes - it's both utterly unique, and incredibly versatile - with 4 modes of operation that you can switch up and down and combine on the fly via the 2 footswitches :

1. Core Fuzz
2. + Phaser
3. Gravity
4. Frequency

The Core Fuzz and Frequency Modes can now also be found in the Piluxx - where you press-hold the Footswitch to engage or disable the Frequency Mode - a short press switches the device / Core Fuzz on and off. The Red 250V LED indicates Core Fuzz ON, and the Blue 10A LED indicates Frequency Mode ON. For the Fuzz Fields those were both Red LED's - but it makes sense here to differentiate.

I of course took the 'lid' off my Piluxx Fuzz to peek inside - per the above visual.

You can see that the core of the fuzz is very simple indeed, and much like my good friend Daniel @ Fjord Fuzz - Archie and Phil get incredible results from those tiny SMT transistors. By the sound of the pedal's output you would swear that there were some high value vintage components onboard, while this is that incredible mix of vintage and modern (vintage being the enclosure!)- with an absolute killer richly-textured output. It sounds fantastic up against anything - and has a wonderful character, sear and saturation.

Everything about this project is so smart. When I initially saw the pedal at the Leeds Show I wasn't sure what to think - it kind of caught me by surprise. There was so much footfall on that day - that the last hour was something of a whirlwind of chaos and I didn't get around to acquiring a couple of essential pedals that I spotted at the show - which I remedied a short while later - thank goodness!

The Piluxx has just 2 controls, besides the modal footswitch - the core 'Fuzz/Frequency' knob - brown on my edition. And an Output / Level trim-pot to the right of the main knob - which you can access externally by using a small screwdriver. Note that said trimmer is quite sensitive - and needs to be operated with care. As the shape of the device makes it a touch tricky to adjust that trim-pot with the pedal in my pedal-chain - but I figured it out pretty quickly.

For optimal on-the-fly deployment - so you can switch the Frequency Mode in and out at will - you ideally need to adjust the central knob to suit both Core and Frequency Profiles - which for me was a little left of centre - or around 11:30 o'c.

The Frequency Mode gets into Droning Oscillation all too easily - so you need to pick a frequency that sounds great - but which knob position also delivers the best Core voicing too - and for me it's that circa 11:30 spot - you really have to adjust the last bit by ear as it can be super-sensitive.

Be careful with the Volume Trimmer too - that can go super loud, and getting the optimal level can be a little fiddly - as like the Frequency control - it can be a touch sensitive.

Get both dials set up just right - and it sounds magnificent. It's a cool Redux stand-in for its bigger brother - but you will miss out on those superb Phaser and Gravity voicings - and myriad combinations!

As a mini fuzz device - this is incredibly potent. Archie and Phil are definite Fuzz Masters here - and the Core here is every bit as magnificent as the larger format original.

I ordered my green edition just after the Leeds Pedal Show - and my unit is numbered #9 of 9. I picked it up at the recent Brighton Guitar Show - as pictured below.

Archie and Phil had a slightly different variant of Pilux switch for the Brighton show - which you can see in the above image - where that variety was in a silver grey colourway. These were Athens Antique Shop finds by Archie - and there really aren't many of those switches around nowadays. So far there have been 2 batches as far as I'm aware - 9 x Green for Leeds, and 5 x Silver GREY for Brighton. Where only one unit remained at the end of the show - while seemingly that one is snapped up too now. Wyatt from Wyatt Audio picked one up at the show.

These Piluxx Fuzzes were priced @ €185 (circa $210 / £160) - alas both batches are sold out now - but you can read up more on the Blue FX Device Website. If Archie manages to find more of those switches - there will hopefully be a future batch or two - but only if more of those Pilux switches can be found!

Note that the Mode Labels / functions are the other way around on the Silver Grey  Piluxx - with the Blue Left Channel being On/Off and the Red Right Channel being the Frequency On/Off - on my 1st Batch Green edition the colour order is the same - but the labels and functions are inverted!

I'm delighted that I landed the green variety - as it themes nicely with the Talisman Audio GP7 Fuzz I also picked up at Brighton. (Archie showcasing both pedals above!)

As mentioned at the top - I really love the Fuzz Fields - that's such a genius and immense sounding fuzz - with those superb on-the-fly change-up gears. And the Piluxx is a kind of mini-me edition with that same core killer flavour - and 2 of the core Modes in a reduced / Redux format with far fewer controls/ granularity.

The relatively diminutive Piluxx is such a potent Fuzz - if you crank the Volume trimmer it can sound extremely loud - a proper power pill indeed!

You should keep an eye on the Blue FX Devices Instagram for if / when they manage to source more of those switches to make these killer fuzzes. Of course if you want the full-range experience - go for the Fuzz Fields - while the Core and Frequency Modes on the Piluxx are every bit as full-fat as on the original.

I feel very luck to own both!
