Freqscene Effects delivers a brilliant expansive Cleanless take on the venerable Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal Distortion

Freqscene Effects’ Cleanless, built by Wade, expands the classic Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal Distortion for Death Metal enthusiasts. It adds three knobs, a second footswitch and a custom clipping mode.

Wade has garnered quite a reputation now for building on and enhancing classic Boss circuits. And this time around he takes on the high gain monster favoured by Death Metal enthusiasts.
The original has just 4 knobs - Level, Lows, Highs, Distortion. And this Cleanless evolution adds 3 more, a second footswitch, and an extra clipping switch which delivers a secret sauce custom clipping mode.

Even though I would typically prefer a portrait format for this kind of pedal - I can’t dispute the topological arrangement Wade has come up with here. I really love the knob choices here too.
July has been a tough month for me - and I’ve struggled to keep up with all the releases - where somehow this one completely passed me by! This is so the kind of pedal that appeals to me.
Obviously the first batch sold out almost immediately - I’m getting used to waiting for batch 2. I need to reach out and tell Wade - to send me a notification direct - as I keep missing out on these!
