I first featured the Old Blood Noise x Emily Hopkings Parting back on January 21st. All the demos were great, but I was massively put off by the overly cluttered nature of the artwork. Even in the early monochrome edition - that ultra busy design made it really hard to even look in the direction of the pedal - I imagine anyone on the spectrum would not have reacted well to that design. It kind of drowned out the functional ability of the pedal - and made it look far tricker to deploy than it actually is.
Then along comes B’s Music Brian - with his designer Avery Worrall - to save the day with their Purr-ting Cat Edition! That artwork is just perfect for this pedal - and enhances rather than getting in the way of the control topology!
The top knobs are actually in 3 Functional Sections - and I thought it would make sense to make the knobs demarcate each of those sections. To which ends I ordered in 2 varieties from Love My Switches (White and Dark Blue), and 2 varieties from OBNE (Light Blue and Lavender). The Love My Switches arrived in a week, while the OBNE ones have only just landed. So I used one of the White ones from Love My Switches for the Dissolve Function, and the Light Blue ones from OBNE for the Modulation Section. Finally my Parting / Purr-ting is perfect!

I often deploy different knob colourways on my pedals to make the control topology easier and more immediate / intuitive to grasp - I did a similar but more subtle exercise on my recent CTC White Whale Jr also.
The Parting / Purr-ting is essentially a greatest hits of Emily's favourite effects - assembled together in very precise Multi-FX fashion. It's best described as a Glitch Delay / Reverb / Crushing Modulation. It can sound utterly divine and subtle, or crazy glitchy - depending on your preferences.
I always say that you need to make a pedal work for you - and for the Parting to work for me - it needed to be souped up a touch from its original state!

OBNE realised the error of its ways and made a very plain 'Basic' edition - which I feel goes too far in the other direction - that pedal just doesn't appeal in the slightest to me - with its tiny graphic in the centre - it kind of looks like a printing error! I can understand why they did it - but that execution just isn't aesthetically appealing - especially not compared to the Purr-ting!
OBNE then recently issued 2 further Editions as below - with that same overly cluttered and dense artwork - Ikey's Likey's Edition with Red knobs, and the somewhat puerile 'Farting' Edition in Brown. Apparently there is a market for those too! Yet none of the ones OBNE has designed and made can hold a candle to the B's Music design by Avery Worrall - that is the artwork this pedal deserves! And the only one I would feel good about owning!

KEY FEATURES

The OBNE x Emily Hopkins x B's Musing Purr-ting is $329 direct from B's Music Shop (same price as the stock OBNE one), available right now!
The pedal got to me relatively quickly - obviously I had to pay import charges / customs fees on top of that - those came to almost exactly £60 or $80 equivalent. I spend a further $30 for knobs from Love My Switches, and $45 for the same number of knobs from OBNE - which had dearer shipping, but then arrived nearly 3 weeks after the Love My Switches ones landed! Note that shipping to London, UK is included in those knob prices.
Obviously there's a degree of lunacy in this process - while I keep hold of all my pedals - and they need to work for me - which sometime involves a little extra effort and cost. Only 4 of the 16 knobs got used in the end - so those remaining ones are still assets! While I did overall end up paying $484 for mine - which is obviously borderline insane - but that's what I needed to do to make the pedal fully work for me!
You can of course buy the 5 other Parting varieties direct from OBNE and at leading dealers - only B's Music has the Purr-ting! And only OBNE has the 'Farting' which is on a separate URL - available for a limited time only!
