Americans now have a fantastic new safe and secure smart Pedal Trading Platform - PedalXchange.com

My now good friend Jason has done an exceptional job here with pedalxchange.com - a great deal of care and thought has gone into making this the smartest, safest and most secure trading platform.
When Jason first contacted me mid-November last year - there were barely a dozen pedals on the site - and I said we needed closer to 100 pedals to be able to properly launch this new platform. So in the intervening couple of months or so - Jason has really worked Reddit communities and other key guitar social media resources - where when he contacted me on January 15th - there are now nearly 130 or so pedals on the site, and 400+ members that have signed up already!
You have pedals here from so many different brands - obviously the big 3 - Boss, EHX, and MXR - but so much more besides - new brands that I’ve not encountered before - including Ivy Pedals, and Gold Stompworks, then Chase Bliss, Eventide, Keeley, JDM Pedals, a cool Trombetta Mini-Bore Clone, and a couple of JHS Jack White Troika Delays.
Generally a really broad selection of pedals at all sizes - with the dearest one on their being a super rare Landgraff on there at $1,200 - for those with deep pockets. Otherwise the prices are pretty reasonable. There are several here that I have my eye on - and I might just ask Jason to acquire one or two on my behalf - as I’m based outside the USA - and can’t and won’t be validated and verified for membership of the site!
There’s also a grey box Pete Cornish SS-3 going for $800, and a Frantone The Sweet for $550 - so a smattering of higher priced pedals, but with the median price range being circa $75 to $200 - per expectations.
The Sign-up and Validation
There is so much fraudulent activity now on Reverb.com and Ebay, and Facebook Marketplace. Jason reasoned there had to be a better way for pedal enthusiasts to trade their unused / unwanted pedals. And security is really a prime consideration for PedalXchange.com - both your email address and phone number need to be validated for you to set up your account. I of course tried - but since I'm based in London - the email validation worked fine - while the system obviously could not handle my UK mobile phone number - and I got summarily rejected!
Some people have winged a little about how stringent the security is - but it has to be this way to ensure that there is no fraud perpetuated on the site. Members have to be validated before they can complete their account sign-up. So with me being in London - Jason had to set up an account for me - so that I could peek into the inner workings of the site!
Buy outright or Arrange Trade of equivalent value pedal
The site can work as just a straight-up second-hand retail site - much like Reverb therefore - where members can buy pedals outright, or arrange to trade their pedal for another - by mutual consent. Members set their own prices and set up their own trades. There's a cool system for how you identify your targets - as detailed next.
I'm one of those guys that keeps all his pedals - so I would not necessarily be looking to do trades - while I do have a couple of duplicates that I could offer up if I wanted to. All that's a little moot for me at the moment - as I'm London based - and the site is currently only open to USA residents!
Add to Want List, Make Trade Offer, or Make Purchase Offer
Once your account is set up and validated you can get to shopping for pedals, To Trade - you need to load up your own pedals on the site - which you can then offer up in trade. It's up to each individual member as to whether they approve the trade - and it's all handled in the most secure and hopefully bullet-proof fashion.
You can [Report This Listing] if you witness anything suspect. And members who dare to transgress will be summarily ejected and banned from the site. While hopefully the many safeguards in place help to keep that to an absolute minimum. There's also a Ratings system where you Rate the Members' conduct for each transaction.
There have been several notable Trades made already - which include Silktone, Spiral Electric FX, and Spaceman Effects. The site is plenty active already - and it's only going to grow.
The 2-Step Want List
This system actually caught me out the first time around - as like for the Member validation this process is 2-Step. You hit the [Add to Want List] option on a target pedal, and you get taken to a second screen which helps you further define your Match / Target Criteria.
You need to therefore hit the 'Add Want' button twice to lock that in on your dashboard - hit the want once and nothing really happens - and your Want List remains empty. I think in future there will be further automated prompts to help you navigate each stage - while I feel it's all very logical as is - while some might feel that some aspects are a little clunky - but they have to be that way for this system to work reliably!

Final Thoughts
The site is already incredibly impressive after just a couple of month or so - hopefully this will grow to a point where Jason can open the membership further afield - to include Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand in the second phase - and then add country by country until most serious pedal enthusiasts can get involved.
For me this is another incredible Pedal Resource - and I would love to have full personal access - while that's probably a fair few months away.
Props to Jason for a job well done here - pedalxchange.com is truly a great addition to the Pedal landscape - I just wish more people had access - it's currently USA only!
