This Three-Gain-Stage / Triple stacking preamp utilises unique Dr. No designed special Silicon Skullsistor Transistors - with one per each of the 3 stages. I’m not 100% clear as to whether the Doctor manufactures those in their entirety - or just moulds the skull casings over the top of a special and specific TO-92 style transistor. Either way it’s really cool!
So apart from those custom Skullsistors we also have a gorgeous artwork and unique custom made flocked chicken-head style knobs and footswitch surrounds. The Kukulcan logo element is also a 3D-flocked creation. So the pedal has that combined visual and feel dynamic - with all those flocked / felted elements.
This is a beautiful design for sure - while not necessarily the most practical to be deployed on your board - but for sure very unique and with a killer ramp-up on the output. You’re essentially deploying and balancing each of those 3 Stages in different combination. So it has the useful Dr. No degree of playfulness about it. Another Dr. No masterpiece for sure.
I designed my visual to feature all the key elements in one comprehensive combination - and most who’ve viewed it really love it.
The first batch of these consists of just 30 units, where only 100 will be made in total!
’Kukulkan’ is the Mayan word for - Plumed / Feathered Serpent!
The pedal is intended to be quite elemental - kind of thunder and lightings style - with the 3 knob monikers - Earthquake, Storm, and Rain - proper sturm und drang!
Controls - Earthquake (Gain Stage 1), Storm (Gain Stage 2), Rain (Gain Stage 3).
The Kukulkcan goes for €372 / $439 / £326 and equivalent on the Dr. No Webstore - the first of which should be shipping any day now!
I would quite like to own one of these - I’m still making my mind up on what priority to assign to this glorious new pedal - it’s the perfect marriage of form and function - and so artistic / artisan! Another Dr. No classic for sure!
