It’s great news that Dr. No is reissuing its iconic Holy Wahcamoly Wah - here in 10th Anniversary Flocked Edition, Not just the pedal enclosure is fully flocked - but the red chicken-head knob is too! A really cool version of this pedal. And whenever I see the Wahcamoly I can’t but help call to mind the JAM Pedals Wahcko also - which is equally colourful and flavourful.
Those are two the very best full-flavour Wah pedals with the same degree of attention to detail - focused on the exterior as well as interior of those devices. Both have a similar external frequency knob - where the Wahcamoly’s is a clicky / detented 3-position selector, and where the Wahcko has 6 positions.
The 100% hand-made Wahcamoly features a hand-wound ’Myth Halo’ 600mH inductor - delivering rich harmonics and superior low end response for killer classic tones.
I would say both of these are very much in the ’Art Pedal’ category - with that extraordinary attention paid to every part of the pedal. Both have incredibly striking designs. And for a period JAM Pedals has had that market all to itself - while Dr. No is back to reclaim a big slice of the action!
The JAM Pedals Wahcko is available in a number of different editions - including several Custom Shop editions. It features the well-loved 565mH Red Fasel Inductor and is similarly hand-made like the Wahcamoly - while it does not feature its own custom hand-wound inductor as far as I’m aware. The Standard Wahcko is at €369 courtesy of the JAM Pedals Webstore, but rises to €479 and more for Custom Shop Editions. Talking of Custom Shop Editions - my good friend Thorpy has just picked up a a really cool ’Achenbach’ Custom Shop edition in purple!
The reissued 10 Anniversary Flocked Holy Wahcamoly is at €372 on the Dr. No Webstore - meaning both ’Standard’ versions that appear here are priced very similarly.
There are differences to each pedal - and they will have slightly different textures and treadle angles and tapers - but both are wholly Top Tier. In fact both Wah Pedals here have several compelling reasons for you to want one or both even - while for most it will be a matter of one or the other. Obviously both look and sound superb - you have a tough decision to make here!
For me - I’ve already found my own perfect Wah - the super compact Plutoneium Chi-Wah-Wah Auto-Return, I would struggle to fit these two bigger examples on my board - where I do though really admire them for what they deliver. While many love them for exactly how they are - and several indeed favour the larger treadle wah-pedals. If you end up with either of these I’m sure you will be delighted - both are spectacular in sight and sound! A demo of each follows below :
