It seems a very short time ago that I featured the polka dot edition - which has mostly sold through now - and the usual A-holes are trying to sell those for as much as £1,500 on the second-hand market!

While I am a Randy Rhoads fan, I’m not normally a fan of these cash-ins - very obviously taking advantage of the recent passing of Ozzy Osbourne. It is a very attractive proposition - and that pinstripe design plus the gold accents - is absolutely gorgeous.
Yet I’m still not fully convinced I need one. This would very much be a collector’s item - and mostly of the shelf-ware and paperweight type. I would imagine most buyers will have this as a display item.
Randy Rhoads’s signature tone was a sort of evolved and boosted Marshall Plexi - and I feel I have more than enough options for that already - including all my Sinvertek pedals. I’m not clear on the internal differences between this model and the previous one - while often with these types of pedals the are simply ’re-skins’ of the previous edition!
It would be nice to own this from a collector’s perspective - while I would assume pedal usage would be fairly minimal - and particularly within my rig.
I see it’s in stock already with USA Dealers, and due in stock in the UK at least - in early October! I’m not sure why MXR is so slow getting product into UK distribution - it’s always at least a month after the USA gets it! Seems like some sort of discrimination to me. Plenty of American brands coordinate worldwide simultaneous release - but MXR never has!
This is a much more attractive version than the previous Polka Dot edition - which I feel many of those will be back on the second-hand market while their previous owners pick up the more attractive gold-accent pinstripe variety. You can read more on said pedal on the MXR Website. It retails at a slightly higher price than its predecessor - that was at $169, and this one goes for $199 - £199 in the UK.
I might have a change of mind - it is that gorgeous! But I’m likely to pass for the reasons previously mentioned! I don’t really do ’collector’s editions’ I’m all about maximum use of each device!
