Pedal Brands of Etsy - a Selection!

One of GPX’s loyal readers - one Richard K - suggested that I do a feature on Pedal Brands that were mostly or principally active on Etsy.com. I’ve always found the Etsy site somewhat problematic to use - there are scant details listed for those products / pedals etc., the layout and navigation are just horrendous, and the site search the worst of any I have encountered - where it just could not recall specific brands and pedals searched for - I needed to search via Google to get properly into the site - a frustrating experience all-round. 

I personally am typically more likely to be found on Reverb.com and Ebay.com - which deliver much more satisfactory browsing experiences - Reverb in particular! I guess there are lower listing fees on Etsy - which is why some of these brands still stick to that site - while quite a few have moved on or gone into hiatus in recent times.

As a core part of this exercise I trawled through nearly 100 pages of the site - looking for ’Guitar Pedals’, ’Effects Pedals’, and ’Effects’ mostly - and it seems each time I search it yields different results!

In trawling through Etsy you are faced with a lot of Pedal Accessories - Knobs, Toppers, Protective Covers & Overlays, Stands, and Mounting Devices. And you see a lot of cheap Chinese pedals - in particular Caline, Demon FX, Moen, and Mosky. There also seem to be a couple or so dealers / distributors at large - including say Starlite Distribution. While for this feature I target solely the independent brands with a presence on Etsy. I typically favour those that have a range of pedals - and where there is some overarching substance to that selection of pedals.

As you get with a lot of the smaller and fledgling brands - there’s a lot of derivative and cloned circuits listed - where I’ve tried to steer away from those to more unique pedal creations.

Apart from the horrible site structure of Etsy - a lot of the listed pedals feature poor and unusable photography and imagery - so that was part of the selection process too - and something of a limiting factor in places!

There are also more established brands listed on Etsy - while all of those have a far higher presence, and are stronger on Reverb.com and their own sites too typically - these include - Coppersound, Dazatronyx, and Recovery Effects - mostly whom I’ve covered on this site already!

Finally Richard K mentioned a couple of his favourite Etsy Brands - the first I know very well - Glowfly (Tom), and the second one of which I’ve had some dealings with in its earlier incarnation - ’Occvlt’ where I own a few of those, while I’ve not yet acquired anything from Adrian’s new ’Tone Charm’ Offshoot. Both Glowfly and Occvlt / Tone Charm used to be active on Etsy - but are seemingly not any more.

The brands I selected have to be currently active as far as I can gauge.

I’ve not acquired any of these pedals yet, and most of those brands are fairly new to me - while I’m very familiar with SviSounds - which has been a target for me previously - but never quite happened - yet!

I would be happy to review any of those pedals for his feature - and I may indeed look to acquiring some of those in the not too distant future!

As mentioned - I’ve come close to snagging a couple of Svi Sounds Minis before. From this overall selection - my other favourites are the Katra Drive, Loveless Shoegazer, Dino Muff Pedal, Disphoria Distortion, and Lost Soul Modulated Fuzz - I may very well look to get some of those landed!
