Following on from the ’1991’, ’Skeleton Key’, and ’Dirt’ - which pedals were all based on the sounds of particular albums, we now have a pedal based on the fuzz sound of a single song - Supergrass’s ’Caught By The Fuzz’ from where the pedal obviously gets its name.
It’s not based on an existing circuit - but rather based on making a fuzz sound exactly like what you hear on the track. The tone generation vehicle of choice on this occasion is an OpAmp - and where there are only two simple controls which yield a plethora of tones and timbres via just Fuzz and Volume knobs.
Controls - Fuzz, Volume.
There are a number of fuzz pedals with simple controls - just one or two knobs - which yield a significant range due to the smart interplay of those electronics. And this one follows that mould.
Funny Little Boxes’ Andy describes his pedal as :
"Inspired by Oxford underdogs and everyone’s second favourite band, Supergrass; Caught By The Fuzz is a vintage voiced fuzz pedal packed with tones spanning the 60’s through to the modern day. Supergrass, Led Zeppellin, Black Sabbath, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, 3rd Secret and lots more are all to be found within it. Complete with flashing sirens, this is guaranteed to put a smile on your face."
The pedal is up for preorders for the usual incredible price of just £99 - and yes the dual blue LED’s flash with the same sort of timing pattern as you would get on a UK police car!
Preorders are available right now on the Funny Little Boxes Webstore - in fact those pedals have already started shipping!
Funny Little Boxes / Andy will be at the Leeds Pedal Show this coming Saturday (31st) - where I hope to pick up one of these for myself!
