Interestingly the parent brand here is ’Mahoney’, which had the Acid Tone out back in at least 2010, and managed to acquire the Jordan trade mark in around 2021 supposedly.
They have 3 pedals for sale now - which all include a Mod - via a separate toggle switch. The Buzz Tone has a ’No Clipping’ option, the Acid Tone has a ’22k filter Mod’, and the Spirit in the Sky has a ’Starved / Dying Battery Mod’.
All 3 pedals can be acquired for very reasonable sums from the Jordan / MahoneyGuitarGear Webstore. For sure they’re fairly simple devices - but they are very well priced. I personally would typically want a more expanded feature set - say including a bias and some sort of variable EQ. But I can understand the appeal of these simple devices.
All 3 pedals have the same 2 controls - Volume / Level and Attack plus a single 2-way Mods switch - as already described.
Every other brand has its own ’Buzz Tone’ variant out there - including JHS’s Legends of Fuzz take, and the recent Anashead Spirit Fuzz I covered on this site, and there are a fair number of Mosrite Fuzzrite examples out there too - including from Analog.Man and Catalinbread.
These are the 3 pedals currently in the range :
I already have a number of Boss Tone and Fuzzrite style fuzzes - so it’s not an immediate priority for me. While all of these sound pretty tasty - and those single Mods per pedal are really very well done - and enhance the playback for said pedal.
I’m sure these will sell very well once people are aware of them. This is a strong proposition - while this brand has no legacy connection to those original pedals - they’re simply made under licence here.
It’s always nice to have those classic back in circulation - and these seem to be honest and genuine offerings. I may very well end up with one or two of these myself.
The newest Spirit in the Sky Fuzz is simply a further modded Boss Tone - with a different Dying Battery Mod onboard - vs the No Clipping option on the Boss Tone. I would imagine those circuits are very similar - with the individual Mods being the key difference. These are certainly very affordable! A nicely don’t exercise overall.
The website is incredibly basic - and doesn’t yield those details I normally seek - so I can’t say how authentic these circuits are - and whether they are say SMT or THT. The scant demos that exist sound pretty decent - we really need a few more demos to be able to properly triangulate these.
There is one decent Demo of the Boss Tone, and old Mahoney Acid Tone Demo from 14 years ago, and no Spirit in the Sky demo as yet. Whenever one materialises I will add one!
So here’s what we’ve got currently :
