So Joe Halliday made me a killer Dual RangeMaster - with Silicon Texas Instruments 2N4060 Transistor on the left channel, and Germanium Newmarket NKT CV7001 on the right - which I picked up a week before my Birthday.
It’s literally and liberally filled to the brim with the best of Primo Components - for a wonderfully richly textured output. And it features that fantastic looking ’Bees’ fabric that Joe spotted in a store while on holiday.
Controls - SILICON } Boost, Range : Hi / Mid, Gain; GERMANIUM } Boost, Range : Hi / Mid, Gain, Footswitch per Channel.
You need to be particularly careful with the Silicon Channel - which has a certain amount of noisefloor to it if you go beyond 2 o’c.
The Silicon is Beefy and Aggressive, while the Germanium is Bright and expressive, I typically gave Germanium side maxed out, while the Silicon Gain never goes above 2 o’c for me. You still get a little bit of a noise floor when you combine the two channels in that manner - but it sounds excellent.
For many there will be plenty of volume onboard - certainly on the Silicon side - it easily reaches unity - while I would still like a little more - to give me more of a searing output.
I typically hit this RangeMaster with both barrels of the ThorpyFX Heavy Water - that sounds exceptional. With both channels combined you get that sort of pseudo / proto fuzz sound - with fuzzy-drive textures galore!
This is yet another really special exceptional Hello Sailor Effects pedal - with distinct and unique textures.
It’s a nigh perfect execution from all sides - while a soupçon of more volume and sear would be very welcome.
As this pedal was a gift - it doesn’t have an associated price as such - while there is another on the HSE Webstore - this time with a Skull / Dia De Los Muertos theme - featuring largely the same sort of components - and that one goes for £320.
This is my 13th HSE Pedal into the reference collection - and the first proper Hello Sailor RangeMaster variant - while a very special edition of that!
Highly recommended!
