So I’m a little late to this one as I’m not necessarily the biggest fan of the Deftones, and per se wouldn’t instantly be excited by the prospect of a Signature Pedal from said band. The first time I came across this - I gave up on the main demo before the interesting part had occurred! The most interesting part occurs around 2:35 - where the effect is most prominent. Because of the mix of the guitar distortion - you’re not as aware of the ’Digital Bath’ during the more high octane playback.
You get a gorgeous Burbly / Bubbly filter - further augmented by an upto 400 ms delay.
There’s no manual that I can see, and not too much detail on the individual elements of the circuit - so I don’t know for instance if the depth toggle-switch is 2- or 3-way - while essentially that control increases the intensity of the effect. Overall the control topology seems pretty straightforward :
Controls - DELAY } Mix, Time (up to 400ms); FILTER } Mix, Depth (Intensity), Rate.
So relatively simple to deploy but highly proficient, and very effective - I’m sure I could get a similar effect if I played around enough with my Subdecay Prometheus Filter - and then supplemented with one of my many delays. But there is much to be said for a precision honed self-contained effect in one box - and I’ve decided I really rather like the sound of that specific combination. So this is definitely a target for me now.
If you’re into aquatic burbly and bubbly noises - then surely this is one for you too!
Available from the KHDK Webstore now for $249, and possibly imminently available at international dealers. I’m not seeing anything at UK dealers or on Reverb.com yet - so it looks like right now the only option is the KHDK Webstore!
