The Devil Tail Deathtortion is the 7th Lastgasp pedal to enter my reference collection. It’s a sort of cousin to the recent Lluna Feedback Oscillation Fuzz - with a similar cutting sear to it, but accompanied by a pounding thick and chunky textured distortion.

It has a wide range of gain from medium to somewhat blistering high gain distortion.

Controls - Level, Gain, EQ Trimers on Rear : Mid, High, Low.

I decided that I wanted a little more girth and hair to the sound - and so I cranked the Low trimmer to Max - which sounds killer.

I’m getting some of the best chuggy palm muted sounds. It’s not as tight as the Fortin Meshuggah (I’m not sure anything is!). But its output is wondrous in its own way - really thick and juicy and punchy.

I would still have loved this as just a 2-Knob pedal - as it already sounds killer without really touching the EQ - while with a few EQ tweaks it goes up a whole other level!

I have loved all my Lastgasp pedals to date - while the Flikrrr Tremolo is a little one-trick - but all 7 that I have are properly loud and expressive - and pretty unique!

I tend to have the Level set to between 1 and 3 o'c, and the Gain is fully within the Hell portion of the dial - in fact mostly cranked all the way for those killer chuggy tones. I cranked the Low frequency trimmer also, but left the Mid and High trimmers on factory defaults.

Much like the recently reviewed Lluna - this is full-on and in your face. You can simply just deploy the two dials - or else involve the 3-Band EQ. The EQ is a little fiddly to use - as the apertures don't fully line up with the trimmers - it's easier when those trimmers are more flush to the outer surface - like on the Vemuram pedals - here the trimmers are on the PCB - a certain distance away from the apertures - and you will need a torch to properly line up your screwdriver - I feel that could have been done a little better from the perspective of pure ergonomics. While sonically - this pedal is perfect for me. It's not the very highest gain distortion necessarily - but it's well up there - and its overall texture is just beautifully thick and juicy!

I got my Devil Tail Deathtortion from Joe's Pedals in the UK - where it goes for £199 when in stock. These sold through very quickly - and Joe is ordering some more in.

The two Lastgasps I added recently are just blisteringly brilliant for those categories - fuzz and distortion. This one's an instant satisfaction hit for me!

Note that Lasgasp Art Laboratories pedals are also available from Effekt Boutique in Germany, Perfect Circuit in the USA, and direct from Lastgasp in Australia.
