It’s well known that I favour the Dumble Drive format, and have several favourites already. Lawrence Petross’s new take on that format looks like another interesting candidate - while his limited releases can be hard to get hold of.
Our mutual friend Steve Dennis of FX Pedal Planet stocks 6 LPD Pedals - while I’m not sure he will ever have this Bedlum in stock, the previous one - the latest iteration of the Lucent Overdrive has not been stocked thus far either. The ever increasing costs of shipping and import charges make it extremely unpractical to buy pedals direct from source. A local dealer is usually a much more efficient solution - while they typically only stock a limited subset - and not necessarily those pedals that you prioritise!
I still feel I would like to acquire the Lucent and Bedlum - I’m just not clear on what the opportunity is for that!
Controls - Master Volume, Drive, Tone, Mass (Pre-Clipping Bass), On/Off Footswitch, PAB (Preamp Boost + EQ).
The control topology is very straightforward really once you realise Mass is simply a pre-clipping Bass control.
And then we have a slightly unusual second PAB footswitch - which acts as a Preamp Boost - but also adds some Colour.
I believe this model is a specific take on the #102 Robben Ford edition of Dumble ODS. You may recall that my good friend Henry Kaiser is something of a Dumble expert - and indeed was a friend of Alexander Howard Dumble. The last demo reference is Henry’s feature on Howard Dumble - which has only just recently been released.
The Bedlum Overdrive can be yours for $225 courtesy of the LPD Pedals Webstore - where you get a choice of Standard Silver or Black knobs! Hopefully this model will be available in the UK at some stage - at which time I will most likely look to add that to my reference collection.
The demos are really decent - and this is indeed a great sounding Dumble take - whether or not it approaches my Demon Pedals Kondo-Shifuku and Tanabe Zenkudo.
The LPD Pedals Bedlum surely deserves some consideration and due diligence!
