So TC Electronic / Behringer have done a pretty decent job here in massively updating the entry-level mini Ditto Looper. It now has a number of smart features and different Modes onboard. While they’ve messed up the brand cachet a little with the new styling - the enclosure is significantly less rounded / rolled at the edges, and the typographic; treatment kind of at odds with the original and previous variants.
While they really should have kept the joined up OO’s in ’LOOPER’ - where that typography used to carry a reel-to-reel ident / symbol that was such a cool addition - I don’t know why they’ve removed it here - that’s surely the biggest transgression! God forbid they monkey around with the iconic waisted Compact edition enclosure - which surely seems endangered now.
I’m sad to report that TC Electronic really doesn’t exist any more - they’ve now closed the Danish HQ and shred he remaindere of key Danish staff - which admittedly were steadily dwindling. The largest TC Electronic Diaspora was the creation of Audio Distribution Group which is the most significant group of former TC Electronic Staff. The operation is now wholly a Behringer Sub-brand that they will continue to distil further - until there is noting left of the original brand - surely there are just traces remaining - and this latest TC Electronic pedal further separates what the brand has become from its origin and core brand values. When you buy a TC Electronic device nowadays - you’re at best getting TC Electronic ’Lite’ if not entirely just a Behringer diffusion brand - which is a real shame - as there was a period when TC Electronic challnged Boss for Pedal Kingpin status - while the seems a really long time ago now. This Ditto 2 really marks the transition to TC Electronic MK2 - which bares no resemblance to what it was originally - and where all the key staff that made that brand have now been shed along the way!
I personally don’t mind Begringer products that are not ripping off someone’s Trade Dress - and can see myself still buying the occasional TC Electronic Pedal - but that warms feeling seems very remote now!
The new footswitch here also looks a little odd, and marginally cheap - even though it does contain superior magnetic style relays for switching - which makes the device more robust and reliable, and still deliver a degree of haptic feedback.
And regardless of the brand strategy lapses - this is a great new edition which I will definitely be getting - I really like the diffused-light LED.
You also of course have Bluetooth Connectivity and a corresponding App - which you need to select some of the modes of operation.
I’ve always said that the original Ditto was an essential buy, then the Ditto+ - and now it’s time to upgrade once more to the really smart Ditto 2!
Tap Controls - 1st Tap Record, 2nd Tap Play, 3rd Tap Overdub, then alternating Play > Overdub > Play etc., Double Tap is Stop / Pause, and Tap-Hold Clears out the stored Loop!
Side Switch Modes - Up is Bluetooth Pairing, Middle is 2 selectable User Modes [select which within BT App], Down is Original Ditto Mode - with longer recording time.
2 Selectable USER Modes :
3 x MODES
The Ditto 2 can be yours for just €98 / $99 / £89 - already in-stock at Andertons - and should be imminently available at all major dealers! An incredibly neat looper overall! And you can read up more about it on the TC Electronic Website!
Note that the Visual illustrated the ST Single Tap Mode - with only 3 Actions Available for that Mode - cycles of Record > Play > Delete - as mentioned!
