So for the Klowra Vein we actually have 16 Intervals (Up or Down), with the 17th Mode being Unity / Root. As described in the title its output is full Microtonal Stereo [MISO] - at a really high degree of fidelity - where this is the dearest of the Klowra pedals - with a $20 premium over the other 3, where the Vein is at $149 versus the $129 of the others. Which is a little odd for me - as overall within this collection - the Pitch-Shifter will likely have the least demand. I guess therefore that the higher volume sales of the others is why they can be sold at that slightly lower premium.

I personally mostly use Pitch-Shifters for that Tom Morello 2-Octave Momentary and Fast Glide-Up - which this one accomplishes perfectly. While you can obviously engage various pitch-inflections to colour your melodies and grooves.

And in addition to the Morello style Glissando, you also have a Ramping option for shifting Micro Tonal Degrees around your selected Intervals.

In most ways there is much less about this one versus the others in the Bloom Infinity Series - in that it’s mostly a singular effect with several variations - versus the multi-voice / multi-fx nature of the others.

If you’re after a Pitch Shifter - this is one is one of the best - as mentioned - it’s super high fidelity and functions really elegantly and predictably. I would place this overall on the same level as the Limbo and Everlast, while I feel the Sprout is currently not quite at the level of these other Klowra types - which are all pretty much top tier within their categories!

GLIDE MODES

  • The Vein supports two modes for Glide :

    • Momentary Mode (indicated by continuous orange LED. The effect is active only while the footswitch is held down, allowing for real-time, on-the-fly pitch transitions.
    • Latched Mode (indicated by continuous white LED. The effect toggles on or off with each press of the footswitch, ideal for sustained use without needing to hold the switch.
  • These modes allow for versatile control, whether you want subtle pitch dips or dramatic, evolving transitions. The GLIDEATK and GLIDERLS parameters further customize how quickly the effect fades in or out when toggled.

GLIDE MOMENTARY

  • When the LED button is set to orange (or when the effect is off, short-press the LED button), the footswitch will be in momentary operation mode. When the LED light is on, the pitch-shifting function is activated. When the LED light is off, the pitch-shifting function is deactivated.
    • Momentary Close - Short-press the LED button to switch to orange. Press&Hold the footswitch to fade the target pitch to the dry signal (LED turns off). Release to slide back to the target pitch (orange LED reactivates)
    • Momentary Open (LED off) - Short-press the LED button With the LED off. Press and hold the footswitch to glide into the pitch (orange LED lights up). Release to glide back out (LED turns off).
  • You can control the operation of the Glide through an external device - via CTRL / EXP Socket.

RAMP

  • Press and hold the footswitch while the LED is white. When the LED turns violet, you’ve entered Ramp Mode.
  • Ramp allows for smooth, dynamic transitions between two sets of parameters:
    • Panel-Set – Your current front-panel parameter settings.
    • Snap-Set – A saved set of parameters stored using the LED button.
  • This feature creates expressive, evolving fades that add depth, movement, and emotion to your sound. The speed and character of the transition are defined by two parameters :
  • RampATK (Attack Time) - Controls how quickly the effect fades from the Panel-Set to the Snap-Set
    • A shorter attack gives a fast, sharp transition.
    • A longer attack creates a smoother, more gradual fade.
  • RampRLS (Release Time) - Controls how quickly the sound returns from the Snap-Set to the Panel-Set.
    • A shorter release results in a quick recovery.
    • A longer release provides a more drawn-out, fluid return.

RAMP MODES

  • Like Glide, Ramp supports two switching modes - Momentary and Latched—giving you flexibility to match your performance style.
    • Momentary Mode - Press & Hold the footswitch to fade into the Snap-Set over RampATK time. Release the footswitch to return to the Panel-Set over RampRLS time.
    • Latched Mode - Press once to transition to the Snap-Set (RampATK), and press again to return to
      the Panel-Set (RampRLS).
  • To select between Momentary and Latched modes, refer to 'Power-Up Modes' section below

POWER-UP MODES INTRO

  • Set different operational modes when starting up your Vein pedal

HOW TO ENTER POWER-UP MODES

  • Press & hold the footswitch while powering on the pedal. A flashing LED indicates successful entry.Once your settings are configured, press the footswitch again to exi

BYPASS MODE

  • Switch between modes by short-press of the LED button - Green is True Bypass, Red for Trails / Buffered Bypass

OUTPUT SETTINGS

  • Select by rotating the RATE knob - rotate Left for True Stereo (3 x Yellow flashes), or rotate Right for Dry / Wet Separation (3 x Blue flashes).
  • Dry/Wet Separation stereo output allows a guitar signal to be split into two distinct paths: one carrying the unaffected (dry) sound, and the other carrying the processed (wet) effect signal. This configuration offers a range of creative and practical applications, particularly useful for live performances, studio setups, and advanced signal routing.

RAMP LOCK

  • Select by rotating the DETUNE knob - rotate Left for Momentary (3 x Yellow flashes), rotate Right for Latching (3 x Blue flashes).
    • Momentary - Hold the footswitch to transition to Snap-Set over RampATK time. Release to return to the current set over RampRLS time.
    • Latched - The first press transitions to Snap-Set over RampATK time. The second press returns to the current set over RampRLS time.

MIX MODES

  • Select MIX Mode by rotating the MIX knob.
  • Turning it fully left selects the Constant Power Mixer (LED Yellow flashes 3x).
  • Turning it fully right selects the Linear Superposition Mixer (LED Blue flashes 3x).
    • Constant Power Mixer - In this mode, the wet and dry signals are mixed in a way that maintains consistent power across the mix. This means that the volume of the wet signal will increase or decrease in relation to the dry signal to maintain a balanced overall sound, with no excessive gain or loss when blending the signals.
    • Linear Superposition Mixer - This mode blends the dry and wet signals using a linear approach, meaning the signals are simply added together at equal strength, without adjusting for perceived loudness. This results in a more direct, unaltered blend of both signals, which may introduce some dynamic changes depending on the level of the wet signal.

LED BRIGHTNESS

  • Adjust by rotating TONE knob - Left for Dimmer / Right for Brighter

EXTERNAL CONTROL - CTR / EXP

  • Use either Remote footswitch or Expression pedal to target Ramping or Glide

Final Thoughts

2025-GPX-Klowra-Vein-Diagonal-700.jpg

The Vein is a Pitch-Shifter with serious hidden depths.

Where the other pedals in the Bloom Infinity Series are all about their various different flavours - this one is all about technical ability. And it's particularly strong with all its different Power-Up and Secondary Modes.

There is quite a bit of additional complexity in the setup of this pedal versus the others - while you can deploy it very simply if you wish, It obviously defaults to Momentary Glide Mode - which is mostly how I prefer to use this pedal - particularly for the Tom Moreollo method, as mentioned.

Similar to the Everlast - this one required a further system update - via the USB-C port. I would have preferred if Klowra had provided release notes on what was included in that later release - whether it was just simple tweaks, or more significant fixes / updates. It's odd in particularly that the Everlast required two updates very soon after launch. One is kind of understandable - as when working with Firmware - you normally discover one or two nuanced issues just after launch.

Generally I found the Vein easy to deploy - especially for how I like to use it. But there's a lot to get stuck into the manual for - as there are so many hidden extra features and operation modes.

I feel it's a very precise and elegant effect - and in its output quality it's right up there with the Limbo and Everlast. In terms of pure experience though - it doesn't hit as hard as those other two - which I overall found more fun. So if I was splitting the Klowra Infinity Bloom Series into Tiers - Limbo and Everlast are all-around Tier  1, this Vein is probably just short of that as a Tier 2 effect, and you will note that I had a few challenges / niggles with the Sprout  - so that goes into Tier 3.

I still think if you're only buying one of these - it should either be the Limbo or Everlast. The Vein is excellent quality - it just doesn't have as much utility / use for me - it's also a little dearer than the other effects.

The Klowra Vein Pitch Shifter can be yours for $149 via the Klowra Website. I still feel it represents good value - as there's so much 'under-the-hood' here. While it will deliver different mileage for different players - depending on how much of the feature set you plan to use.

A really cool pedal for sure - well considered and executed  -  about as good as it can be with that feature set. I'm not sure it's going to replace my Boss PS-6 and DigiTech Whammy Ricochet. I also recently acquired the DigiTech Hammer-On - which I've not fully gelled with yet. My two go to pedals are still mostly the PS-6 and Ricochet. Will be interesting to see how much use I get out of the Vein in the coming years and months. I totally understand that certain players use pitch-shifters a lot within their general style of play - while for me It's mostly been a bit-player. Very nice to have though of course!
