This is a really interesting new pitch-modulation circuit - a tiny bit reminiscent of EQD’s Rainbow Machine - but it’s significantly adjacent to that and very much its own thing! I also much prefer this slimmer form factor here vs the Rainbow Machine. The Mirror House is really cleverly engineered - and calls on a Smart Control topology to shape its output.
It’s best to approach it from the control topology first :
Controls - Mix (Dry>Wet Mix), Amount (Degree of Shift / Pitch Separation), Mode : Shift / Flutter / Detune, Voices (Pitch Up/Down Mix, Balanced at noon), Animate (Additive Modulation / Oscillation).
Pile vocalist and and multi-instrumentalist Rick Maguire has described the Mirror House as being a Slipper Pith-Shifter - which leans into detuning and instability - so a kind of wobbly bi-directional pitch-shift modulation.
In Shift Mode the Amount knob allows you to dial in 13 different intervals - Unison / minor 2nd / Major 2nd / minor 3rd / Major 3rd / Perfect 4th / Tritone / Perfect 5th / minor 6th / Major 6th / minor 7th / Major 7th / +1 Octave.
If you look at the various suggested setting in the manual - they aptly give you a sort of overview of what this pedal is about - Detune, Disorient, Vibrato, Stacked Harmonies, Divebomb etc.
It’s a really cool an unique modulation - where John Snyder is somewhat on a roll with his innovative modulation circuits of late - following on from his excellent Prismatic Wall pedal.
The Mirror House goes for $249 on the Electronic Audio Experiments Webstore - and will hopefully be putting in an appearance at Joe’s Pedals soon - where I’m determined to acquired one!
This pitch-modulation is best described as a deliberately imprecise, warbly and deliberately loose and laggy delivery - hence the ’Slipper’ descriptor!
