So I’m a huge fan of high gain Doomy Fuzzes - with already favourites including the Blackhawk Balrog and the Lichtlaerm Altar.
I’m delighted to report that the fierce and amazingly textured High Gain MOSRAWR Fuzz is wholly up to the task too. Each of my now 3 favourites hits slightly differently - with the Balrog still the King of Sludge - it just has that sticky low end that delivers exactly the right texture for that. Make no mistake - these are all top-tier Doom Fuzzes - with sufficient potency and grandeur to fully match each other - while the core textures are still rather different and distinct!
The MOSRAWR is more similar to the Altar - with such a grand and intense output texture - it really sounds superb, and is marvellously easy to dial in. Of course you can dial it down and use it slightly softer than my settings - which are weapons-great fierce - fully vibrant and slap you in the face potent - a ’face-melter’ for sure! There aren’t that many fuzzes that do this high gain high textured thing quite so well - where the formula is just right for those to sound amazing.
Apparently the MOSRAWR is loosely evolved from the Mo(s)ghoul Distortion, with additional sound design by Silvio from Loopy Demos. Silvio’s wife Claudi of SketchyPedals fame then did the rather splendid pink dinosaur artwork!

Controls - RAWR (Gain), Level, Low, Bite (Mids), Level.
Preferred Settings - Roar @ Noon, Level @ Max, Low @ Max, Bite @ Noon, Hi @ 3 o'c.
I feel the best way to describe this is as a Fierce Doom Fuzz. You really don't need to go anywhere near as full-on as my settings - but they do deliver more fun!
The expansive Gain (RAWR) and Output Volume are equally matched by that precision-honed 3-Band EQ. Usually for these kinds of fuzzes I will have the Mids somewhat swept back for more low-mids thump. While this one sounds the most fierce and textured with the Mids at Noon - or a leas that was my favourite sound.
You obviously get increased compression with the gain control over the mid-way point - that for me gets a little in the way of the harmonics I seek - so the Bite / Mids dial sits best in the middle for me. But obviously with plenty of variations.
There is so much range on this pedal up and down the scale, and it sound excellently calibrated for that perfect balance.
Every-way a magnificent High Gain / High Potency fuzz - a very welcome addition to my quality Doom Section!
The MOSRAWR can be your for just - CHF 149 / €159 / $179, courtesy of he RhPF Webstore. The only current demo to-date is the above Loopy Demos Interactive one - which perfectly represents this great pedal.
This seems to have been released just in time for Black Friday - and is very well priced! The main enclosure is a very pretty vintage sparkle pink.
This collaboration is so great - I hope they do another!
I also hope to collaborate with SketchyPedals at some stage - we just need to find the right subject matter and theme to make that project worthwhile!
A beautifully realised pedal for sure!
