Solar reveals an elegant brushed-finish Chug EQ Boost - featuring 11 controls - 5 of which are dual-concentric.
The Low and Mid Frequency Bands are fully Parametric - with Highs being Semi-Parametric, and featuring additional Output Level, Input Level and High Pass Filter / Shelving controls.
Controls : Q Bandwidth [Low Frequency], Q Bandwidth [Mid Frequency], High Level [High Frequency], Low Level [Output Level], Mid Level, High Pass Shelving [Input Level].
Had I not the Empress ParaEQ 2 - I would certainly be up for acquiring one of these EQ Boost pedals. While I’m already well catered in that area.
Ola’s Solar / Chug has produced another really elegant pedal though - and I’m sure it’s going to do really well.
Note that I omitted to cover the Stage Tuner / Boost when that materialised last year - I kind of didn’t notice it when it happened - and was then way too late to join the party as such - so I though it would be nice to cover all 3 pedals here to a degree (demo-wise) while this post is primarily about the EQ Boost pedal.
The Stage Tuner is another cool innovation - coming with a second-foot switchable Boost - which vastly improves the utility of that pedal type - we’ll surely see a number of Hybrid / Multi-functional Tuners in the coming years - possibly with AI-augmented Parametric EQ too even at some stage.
I just have the original Chug Distortion pedal to-date - which I acquired quick snap right at the point of launch. I do feel both follow-up pedals are valid and worthy - while I’m not necessarily in the market currently for either of those effects.
All 3 are currently available on the Solar / Chug Pedal Webstore - where the Original Chug Distoriton goes for $199, the New EQ Boost is $179, and the Tuner+ is $149 - all really well priced. If I used a Tuner on the board - I would be tempted by the Tuner+, and if I didn’t already have the Empress ParaEQ2 - then I would be looking to add the New EQ Boost too. I’m sure there will be plenty of takers - these are really beautifully made pedals!
