The first 100 Units of Josh Scott's Signature BilT JHS Relevator Guitar are now available - actually probably sold out already!

So this has been on the cards for a long time - as Josh has been sporting this intriguing guitar for a few years now, and interest has been steadily growing. All in all - a quality South Korea import guitar for $1600 (World Musical Instruments) is actually a really decent price. The guitar has high quality components and materials. While I have some ergonomic challenges with some of the details!

I’m not a fan of Kluson style tuners - I will always favour more modern locking tuners - by Gotoh, Graph Tech, Schaller et al. Also a string tree, even just a single one is a sign of a flawed headstock - much like having training wheels on your adult bike! The headstock is a little large, but I largely don’t overly mind it. I love the Rosewood board and Maple neck - in fact all the woods here are pretty spot on.

I do love the choice of those 4 different pickups and how they can be mixed up. The body shape, pickguard, Mastery vibrato bridge - in fact all the body-work is spot on. Pretty much everything from the neck down is spot on - apart from the output jack - which is one of those that plugs into the top (should be on the edge of the guitar). So a few ergonomic issues here for me - in particular the headstock shape, tuning pegs, string tree, and output jack. On balance though I still really like this guitar - and it’s really great for the price - pretty unique really - an overall very distinctive and versatile offset guitar.

I’m not clear on the shipping path here - and where those guitars will be shipped from for international buyers. I would assume the 100 already made are already in the USA! I need clearer details on shipping and import costs for the UK - which may make this guitar somewhat slightly impractical.

I could see my friend Matt at Fidelity Guitars here in the UK making a very similarly featured guitar - different shape of course, but possibly more within my reach and control!

I still quite fancy one of these Relevators - while some practicality questions still remain - and I have my infinitely pedal wishlist to get through first. I’ve promised several luthiers that I will be onto them - as soon as I cross a specific pedal threshold - which still remains to be defined!
