So this recently issued Grimrobe is destined to be my very first Blue Colander pedal - I love everything about it - including its versatile and crushing output. The control topology is super smart - and really delivers an incredibly broad palette of Distoriton and Fuzz tones. I’m just waiting for my good friend Joe Light @ Joe’s Pedals to get these in stock - so I can pounce. Thanks also to the TGR Podcast for flagging this one for me - as it had managed to evade my scrutiny! While it was only announced a few days ago - and is already sold out on the main Blue Colander Site - where it is exceptional value at just €210 - so will presumably be £210 or so in the UK.
You essentially have two massively evolved Rat-style OpAmp gain stage - with all kinds of extras. Those extras include both Hard and Soft Clipping options - which clipping you can run in parallel - with some really impressive textures being added with the Second Gain Stage - and with the Harmonics control in particular - which expansively shapes the character of the output - including speaker-bursting overblown flavours - alongside both Octave Distortion and Octave Fuzz.
The Grimrobe can deliver the most densely textured and crushing of distortions - with some incredible harmonics and artefacts in the mix. I immediately loved the concept of this pedal when I first encountered it - and I love its potent output profile even more.
Even though it’s somewhat derived from a Rat Distortion at the very origin point - this is now an entirely different animal - with a vastly more varied and versatile output. Blue Colander already has a flagship Rat style Distortion with its Tremond pedal - while this ramps that one up and vastly outpowers it. The Grimrobe both overlaps it, and takes over where the Tremond ends - ramping up the output by several more levels of potency!
I already know that I’m really going to love this one - it was about time I acquired a Blue Colander - and the Grimrobe is the perfect choice for me!
