It’s 5 years now since I covered Lichtlaeerm Audio’s original trio - the Altar, Gehenna, and Trugbild. Not so long after that article - Lichtlaerm went on hiatus for a few years - but then came back stronger and much improved - where we have had a few iterations of Altar and Gehenna in the meantime - but up until now - no replacement for the Trugbild.
I had hoped to complete that trio - when I first featured them - but various happening obviously got in the way. So I’m delighted that I now finally own all 3, with the evolved Nostalgia LoFi Modulator / Chorus / Vibrato / Tape Warble / Memory Blur. It’s a somewhat more expansive, granular and shapeable Buzzing Bugs BB03 Lo-Fi Chorus - which is also excellent.
I’m getting the Mirror House V2 from Joe’s Pedals at the same time - which is another similarly Lo-Fi device - specifically a Slippery Pitch-Shifter / Oscillator. There seems to be something of a trend currently for Lo-Fi Modulations and Delays.
Here is the visual from my very first Lichtlaerm Audio article :

Nostalgia Controls - RPM (Speed), Waveform : Ramp Up / Ramp Down / Square (Pulse) / Triangle / Sine / Sweep / Random Jittery / Random Smooth, Depth (Intensity), Warp (Delay Time), Mix (Dry > Wet - Chorus @ 50%), Level (Output), Fidelity : Clear > Warbled, Tap Tempo Footswitch, Bypass Footswitch.
I’ve been waiting a long time for the Trugbild replacement - and from what I’ve heard so far - this is absolutely at the upper level of expectation. It’s a really smart circuit which takes chorusing style effects into even more interesting warbly territory. Those 8 different waveforms really help you to get the most out of this effect - particularly the 2 random ones - which have lots of superb in-between intriguing tones and textures.
In fact this is exactly what I was hoping it would be - and it even has the perfect gold artwork graphic - in the shape of that vintage phonogram. It looks like Daniel has hit it out of the park again. I pounced on this as soon as it was available in the UK, and my unit should be arriving tomorrow -for sure there will be further follow-ups!
The Nostalgia LoFi Modulator is available from Joe’s Pedals in the UK @ £179, direct from Lichtlaerm Audio in Germany - for €199, and at Eastside Music Supply in the USA - for $219!
I have a feeling that this one is going to be very popular indeed! All my Lichtlaerm Pedals to date have been top tier fantastic, and this one seems to be yet another killer device from that roster - it’s my 6th Lichtlaerm Pedal to date!
