This is an interesting hybrid Muff take - somewhat mild - but beautifully textured. The Ram’s Head is quite aggressive, while the Bubble Font Black Russian is the mildest / softest of the Big Muffs - with typically the least sustain.
So this Electric Elk is very unique in carrying aspects of both of those - where the general dynamics are closer to the Black Russian - and the Texture and Harmonics - more for the Ram’s Head - but at a milder level of gain.
It really is a beautifully textured Muff - very distinct in its character. It’s my first pedal from Dublin’s Moose Electronics. The artwork had some tiny imperfections - which I’ve touched out on the main photos. Otherwise it feels like a fairly high quality unit - making use of 4 x BC549C High Gain Transistors - which makes the somewhat mid-gain output even more special!
I acquired my Electric Elk from Joe’s Pedals in the UK - where it goes for £179. I think I may have snagged the last one from that initial batch - as they are currently out of stock - but surely more will be in stock soon enough!

I mentioned that when I saw the name - I presumed it was based on the Japanese Elk Sustainar variant of Triangle Big Muff - with a very unique tone stack. While, as mentioned - its provenance is quite different.
It really is a somewhat surprising Big Muff - highly textured - but relatively mild - which is very much in line with those Black Russian roots.
Controls - Volume, Fuzz, Mids, Tone.
My own current preferred settings are Volume and Fuzz @ Max, Mids @ 8 o'c, Tone @ 3 o'c.
This is Big Muff #115 or so I believe - within my own GPX Reference Collection. And it's certainly sufficiently distinct to warrant a place. It really is a very unique combinations of Ram's Head Texture, with Black Russian Gain and Dynamics!
Highly commended!
