Liminal here means ’Both and In-Between’ which alludes to the multiple nature of this singular effects pedal - which evolves and expands OBNE’s Dweller concept with numerous additional controls and stereo capabilities!
"Taking inspiration from OBNE’s ’phase repetition’ in their Dweller pedal, Bathing takes this difficult-to-describe effect and highlights all its magical features through a wide control set, low noise floor and an expansive stereo field. With features like MIDI, expression control and presets, to store and recall your favourite Liminal Delay sounds, Bathing allows you embark on a sonic adventure, only to then find it to be your new home."
Controls : Delay Time [6 x divisions], Stages (2-12 Modulation Stages - All Pass Filters - Phase / Flange Effect), Feedback, Filter (Combination of LPF and HPF : Darker > Brighter), Rate (Speed of Modulation), Modulation Depth, Shape : Ramp Down / Ramp Up / Pulse / Triangle / Sine / Square / Random Levels / Random Slopes, Dry Level, Wet Level, Dimension (Chorus), Presets 1-3, Tap / Aux Footswitch, On/Off Footswitch.

This is the 3rd Pedal in the OBNE Square Series - that started with the Dark Star Stereo Reverb, and was then followed up by the relatively recent Black Foundation Stereo Delay. This Bathing Liminal Delay - is largely based on the OBNE Dweller - but is such a massive departure from that - that it can really be viewed as its own things. As mentioned - it combines elements of Delay, Modulation and Reverb all in the one unique unit.
It’s a complex confection of effects for sure - and very different to the relatively recently released Stereo Oil Can Delay.
It’s a tricker proposition of sorts - as for the previous two - OBNE was just doubling down and expanding on previous classics - and delivery a complex Stereo soundstage for those circuit. While for the Bathing Liminal Delay - it’s much more of an evolved expansion - and his new effect will meed to find its own audience.
I could have done with access to the manual for this pedal - as the overview details are a little skinny for my preferences - and I can’t pepper this feature with as many interesting facets and factoids as I normally do.
It sill looks like a very compelling effect, and continues the same pricing model - of $299 / €349/ £299 - available now on the OBNE Webstore, and imminently at International dealers! OBNE is usually pretty good at shipping these to International distribution for launch - unlike some of the other US-based brands!
