In many ways this is the most straightforward category with singular award nominees - GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE.
It’s the second smallest category after Distortions - and the one where I own the least number of pedals in proportion to the whole - just 10 out of these 26.
The order pretty much set itself - with the Cornerstone Nucleo being the clear winner from the start. I’m so impressed with every aspect of that pedal - it’s a perfect Trifecta of Design, Feaures and Playability - pretty ...
Another super busy month for me - particularly towards the end - with numerous large scale articles out this week. That also coincided with my busiest week of the year for my other day job. Meaning that I was up until 4-5 in the morning every day - just to keep up with my commitments.
I was already somewhat shattered and burned out before I even got to this super busy period - and it’s a relief that all that work has now been completed on schedule.
I’m especially proud of my work on the Bucket ...
This is quite the superb recreation for several reasons. The 1981 Electro-Harmonix Echo 600 (Denoting the Delay Time) turns out to be super rare - I could not find a single example for sale in any condition. The Echo 600 was essentially a slider-style expansion on the Deluxe Memory Man. And evidently not many were made!
I’ve always wanted a Memory Man Delay for myself - but in a more convenient / pedalboard-friendly unit - and that is exactly what this Pastfx Echo 600 is. So this is very ...
Another super busy month - where the lack of a holiday is really starting to impact my wellbeing - as I’m about as shattered and burned out as is possible without going entirely into meltdown - I’m teetering on the edge!
Here follow the highlights of the month - which I normally try to limit to around 10 elements - but stand at 12 for September. No show or onside attendances this month - while plenty of other activities - and some killer releases of course!
A number of Analog and Analog style Delays have recently crossed my path - so there’s evidently a trend happening! I featured the HSE SeaWolf back in March, the Colortone ZeroSum in August, and then the Black Mountain Roto Echo, Anasounds Utopia MK2, Tru-Fi Aqua Echo, PastFX Echo 600, and now this Beetronics Bee Bee Dee all in September!
Beetronics’ Filipe always does things slightly differently, and his Bee Bee Dee Delay is very distinct - with a little bit of Chase Bliss style magic ...
The purpose of this article is just a quick overview of the 3 new PastFX pedals - where I will review each one in full individually - one per week over the following weeks - in order of appearance here :
Each of those 3 has a similarity of look with a mostly shiny polished enclosure and mostly ...
So I’m way late on this one - mostly a by-product of how busy I am - I can’t keep my eye on every single pedal company simultaneously - so inevitable the occasional release falls through the cracks. I was also in part waiting for this one to come into stock at Joe’s Pedals - but I clocked it too late - and the small quantity Joe had - sold almost immediately. I did sleep on this in part too - as I had only just received the Black Mountain Roto Echo, and the Echo 600 from PastFX has also just ...
Electro-Harmonix is the only one of the big 3 for which I haven’t done a capsule collection rundown yet - so here it is! Obviously heavily dominated by Big Muffs and fuzzes - mostly JHS Modified, with the Violet Ram’s Head modified by Alchemy Audio - after JHS exited from that arena.
As for all of these reference projects - acquisitions are based on a mix of opportunity, timing, price and condition. And I periodically do sweeps to see if any of my targets can be acquired on beneficial terms...
So we have new versions of two of my favourite pedals - the Dahlia is very minorly iterated - seemingly just a sort of internal / firmware update as none of the surface controls / labels are changed on the new iteration. We get a new Kill Dry Option which I rarely use anyway, a 6th Preset Option, and the ability to set 3 different Expression Presets versus just 1 per my original V1 version. All those additions are kind of nice to have for me, while I’m not really going to miss them if I go ...
