We have the same core format here as the Black Mountain Volume and Roto Echo PT2399 Delay Pedals. This evolves the rotary wheel style of pedals first popularised by Classic Audio and Chase Bliss - especially for their respective Expression Rollers.

Black Mountain has evolved that concept further - with the Freewheel as the core of its pedal designs - with an even more robust and more accessible control wheel. Those pedals are truly precisions honed devices - with exceptional touch and feel.

You get incredibly precise control with this style of expression pedal. And it has a dual ports system which accommodates most every pedal brand.

The core industry standard is considered to be 10K, as favoured by the Big 3 - Boss, MXR and EXH, and most of the pedal brands. Where there is a selection of brands that prefer 25K operation - per my extended list below - and the main visual.

There’s a TS/TRS switch on the rear of the pedal - which allows you to accommodate brands that favour TS style expression - like Line 6 does for its Helix devices among others.

Note that the below list is broad brush-strokes / generalist in nature and that you should always check the manual for the device you are using - as connecting the wrong expression standard can damage some of the more sensitive pedals.

Brands are mostly pretty consistent - but there will be the odd pedal that requires a different standard to the norm. Generally - the vast majority seem to support 10K, and most support the Stereo / TRS standard - but there are exceptions - and I’m not about to produce a list of all the exceptions!

In Mike Hermans' below demo he showcases the Freewheel Dual Expression Pedals with the DryBell Vibe Machine, EHX PitchFork+, Keeley Halo, and Strymon Lex - where I own all but the PitchFork+ and can vouch that the Black Mountain Freewheel Dual Expression pedal works wonderfully with the 3 of those that I own, and also my Boss RT-2 Rotary Ensemble which is the core current use for my Expression Freewheel.

This is a beautifully designed and executed device - my favourite expression controller by far to date - this particular format just seems to suit me!

The Dual Expression goes for $199 and equivalent on the Black Mountain Webstore.
